Title: Lawsuits Among Believers
( 1 Corinthians 6 :1-11) If any of you has a dispute with another, do you dare to take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the Lord’s people? Or do you not know that the Lord’s people will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases?
Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life! Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, do you ask for a ruling from those whose way of life is scorned in the church? I say this to shame you.Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers? But instead, one brother takes another to court—and this in front of unbelievers! The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated? Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers and sisters.Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
The world has set up a legal system for every dispute to be settled in the court system. But our brother Paul, in indicating that Christians should not be settling their disputes in the court. We are a member of the same family of God. God is our father in heaven and we are His children. It is very wrong when members of the same father cannot settle their disputes within the family , but instead they go and allow the unbelievers to settle the problem for them. As Christians, we have the Holy Spirit and the mind of Christ.
Why should we go to people who have not known the Lord or have heard the word of God to settle misunderstanding for us. How do we think that they will settle this problem for us if the Holy Spirit is not guiding them. As Christians we operate with God’s wisdom and the leading of the Holy Spirit. We are being guided with the word of God, so we should not allow those who have not known the Lord to settle dispute for us.We have been given authority and power by the Lord to rule . (1Peter 2:9) . We are going to have authority in the future to judge the world and the angels. We have to start to settle disputes among ourselves.
We don’t take only our disputes to unbelievers, we also take our problems to them to help us find solutions. On a daily basis we take our problems to the ritual priests, we engage with them in every type of activities, if you have not had Job in a long time, or have been sick for a long time, whom do we go to? Unbelievers, instead of us to go to God in prayers, we pick the phone or go to people who don’t believe in Christ to take advice and suggestions.
The purpose of going to court with your brother is always to revenge, I must deal with him or her. This is not Christ like attitude. All these kinds of actions do not help the body of Christ. May the Lord help us to love and cherish each each other as Christ loves and cherishes His body in Jesus name. We are one body, let us pray and remain one in Christ. One Love and one spirit, let us come together, Amen.
Prayers: Oh God Almighty, help us to love one another, Lord help us to come against anger against each other. Help us to love one another as you have loved your church in Jesus name. Bring peace among us oh Lord in Jesus name. Let your Holy Spirit never depart from us in Jesus name. Amen.
