C.A.C SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON FOR September 2, 2018 UNIT I: MAN'S LOVE TOWARD GOD , LESSON FOUR topic - LOVING GOD IN RISKY SITUATIONS

--> Note :- Are you born again? You are never going to win the battle against the devil if you are not born again. I plead with you to give your life to Jesus today because the longer you stay in sin and remain unsaved, the more hardened your nature becomes against the purpose and the way God wants you to be for His purpose. To give your life to Jesus now, say this prayer: “Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus. I know that I am a sinner and I cannot save myself but Jesus died for me and shed His blood that I might be saved. Today, I accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Jesus, I ask You to come into my heart, be my Lord, wash me with Your blood and make me whole. I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Lord. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.” I congratulate you and welcome you to the family of God if you have sincerely said that prayer. Now you are fit to discover, know and walk in your destiny. UNIT I: MAN'S LOVE TOWARD GOD.
September 2, 2018.

LESSON FOUR
LOVING GOD IN RISKY SITUATIONS

Job saw hell, yet, he chose to love the Lord till the end. His glorious end challenges us to love Jesus, despite the challenges of life.

MEMORY SCRIPTURE
Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful (James 5:11).

BRIEF COMMENT
We must persevere and patient like Job. The expectation is that we must be patient as Job in the period of suffering, trials and temptations. In time of trials and temptations, Job saw that the Lord was full of compassion and mercy, through, he suffered much to the extent that he lost all of his properties, livestock and employees, and then in the severest blow of all, he lost all of his children in an accident. In addition to all this, his wife fussed at him because he refused to complain and curse God for destroying their lives. Job never gave in to the trials and temptations. He never forsook his faith in God. Despite the fact that he did not understand all that was happening to him, he refused to turn against God.

Therefore, believers are to bear the afflictions of trials and temptations by focusing on the Lord. We must remain faithful in the midst of persecution in order that generations after us might count us faithful and gain encouragement because of our beliefs that the end of all things will come. The endurance of Job from one disaster to another over a period of time notwithstanding, he remained faithful by trusting in God to preserve him. The hope of the righteous is that, they are delivered from persecution of this world.

Apostle James spoke under inspiration that those who endure persecutions and choose to love God in risky situations are counted by the heavens and the earth as blessed, blessed in the sense that God's grace a d mercy would be shown to them now and in eternity. They might seem to be suffering now, but, in the end, they would laugh last.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
1.   No matter the situation, true love for God never wanes; indeed, when the righteous suffers, it is for God's glory.
2.   The Lord is ever ready to carry us through all trials and temptations, by blessing us with His presence, compassion and mercy. We must be focused on God for total deliverance, and be faithful.

BACKGROUND SCRIPTURES: 1 Peter 2:18-20; 3-17

AIM AND OBJECTIVES
AIM:   To show how God's power gives total deliverance to His people who choose to stand for Him in times of trials and temptations.

OBJECTIVES:  At the end of this lesson, it is expected that the learners should be able to:
i.     discuss meaningful lessons from the trials and temptation of Job;
ii.    show the significance of being faithful and righteous before God ;
iii.   show that no matter the challenges of life, we must not replace our God with other gods; and
iv.    prove that there is only one God who has unfailing power to save and deliver the righteous.

INTRODUCTION
TEXTUAL SOURCE: JOB 1,2 2 KINGS 5:1FF
Thank God for how He took us through lesson 3, JOSIAH'S LOVE FOR GOD, where we learnt about the man who made a very remarkable difference in his own time, as the king of Judah. A product of prophecy, Josiah personally loved and served God to the extent of pulling down strongholds of idols, set up by his fathers. We also learnt about his resolve to bring others to holiness, discovering the Word and bringing his people to the true worship of Yahweh. He stood tall, in spite of the ungodliness that pervaded his generation. It is our hope that we will not deviate from the teachings of this lesson.

This week and the next, by God's grace, we shall be looking at lesson 4, titled, LOVING GOD IN RISKY SITUATIONS. This lesson will be discussing the story of Job's love, afflictions and reinstatement. We would see the wealthy man who though, was upright and God-fearing, was tried with afflictions, and lost all he had, but not God. To him, nothing would make him sin against his God, not even his counsellors' pieces of advice. At the end, he was restored, double-fold.

The second division deals with Naaman's wife's maid, and her love for God, even in slavery. Her condition would not let her forget the God of Israel, neither would she close her eyes to the suffering of her master, while she trusted in her God for deliverance. The girl's love for God extended to her master, and brought God immediate and ultimate glory.

May the grace to love God, even in the riskiest of situations, fall on us as we study this 2-week lesson, in Jesus' name. Amen.

INTRODUCTION TO EACH DIVISION
This lesson is divided into two sections I and II, with further division into A and B respectively.

DIVISION I: JOB STUCK TO GOD
This division makes us to understand that when Job was passing through terrible situations, he proved himself to be a faithful and righteous man. He showed clearly that he loved God, Job never gave up, he did not allow trials and temptations to take God's position in his life. He never forsook his faith in God. And in line with Job's strong faith in God, the Lord carried Job throughout his life. He enjoyed the compassion and mercy of God because of his faithfulness. At the end, God delivered Job with His presence, from trials and temptations of life, and gave Job the most victorious life imaginable. Because Job remained faithful in the midst of persecution.

DIVISION II: NAAMAN'S WIFE'S MAID
This section emphasises on Naaman's wife's maid, an Hebrew girl whose conduct showed the God of Yahweh to his master. The Naaman's servant girl was an Israelite brought from her home and family. Despite the fact that she was a slave, she loved Yahweh, the God of her Parents. This girl was given good training at her home land, and she carried the love she has for God to her master. The little girl's faith gave solution to Naaman's leprosy. Her faith led to the conversion of Naaman.

LESSON EXPOSITION
2nd September 2018 | I.  JOB STUCK TO GOD (Job 1:1-2;10; 16:1ff)
The believers are to bear the afflictions of trials and temptations by focusing on God. We must be patient as Jon in suffering trials and temptations because our God is fu of compassion and mercy.

A.   TRIED, DESPITE BEING UPRIGHT (1:1-2:8)
But now, stretch out Your hand and touch all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face! (1:11)
i.   vv. 1-3: Job was upright, i.e. he reverently loved and obeyed God to the extent of God vouching for him (v.8).  Ó wonder the lavishness of God's great blessings on him (vv. 2,3; cf. Prov. 10:22). How does God see you?
ii.   vv. 4,5: Job's love for God influenced his children who gathered, mixing freely with one another in love, in their different houses, turn by turn (v.4). Thanks to their father's coordination and devotion (v.5)
iii.  vv. 6-12: Yet, Satan, our adversary (I Pet. 5:8) attacked his character, and God permitted Satan to try Job's love for, and loyalty to Him. God allows such character-building experiences to prove our worth in Him and make Him more proud of us (cf. v. 8; 1 Cor. 10:13).
iv.   1:13-2:8: Just look at the intensity of the trials God allowed to befall this upright man ---- loss of property and children (1:13-19), and loss of health (2:1-8). It was indeed a trying period that reached the point of Him cursing his birthday (3:1ff) and wishing to die (6:8-10). Added to that was his friends' taunting.
v.   Satan did all he could to make Job weak, dejected, confused, and depressed, to separate Job from the love of his Yahweh (cf. Rom. 8:35).

B.   TRUSTED GOD'S LOVE IN ALL (1:20-22; 2:9,10; 16:1ff)
In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong (1:22).
i.    1:20,21: Job was a frail and mortal man; he mourned his losses, especially as they happened so fast and spontaneously (1:15-19). Yet, he worshipped God. What a great demonstration of unbreakable love for the Sovereign God (Psa. 115:3)!
ii.   v. 22: Job reacted rightly toward God. He was ready to accept all that God had for him with gladness (cf. Eph. 5:20; 1 Thess. 5:18), trusting God's sovereign love and authority over everything He had given him. Job passed the test, showing that we can love God for who He is and not what He gives.
iii.  He trusted that the loving God wouldn't harm him for any reasons. He knew God still had the best for him (cf. Rom. 8:28). Those who query God will only end up getting more of His anger (Num. 14:2-12).
iv.   2:9,10: Job definitely loved God. To him, there was nothing to curse God For.
He would  not express his displeasure, by either words, or action. He couldn't in anyway be offensive to his loving Father. He discarded his wife's suggestion to curse God. Love for God outweighs all else (cf. Gen. 39:9).
v.   16:1ff: TO Job's friends, his troubles had been occasioned by sin. This probably compounded his woes, but instead of self-pity and mount-leaking against God, he refuted their claims.

LESSON DERIVED
1.   We must expect character-building test as a prove of our love for God.
2.   There will always be people around you, wanting to pitch you against the loving God. Don't be persuaded to take action against God!
