TOPIC: THE DEFENCE OF GOD’S PEOPLE
Read: Isaiah 18:1-7
MEMORISE: They will be left together for the mountain birds of prey And for the beasts of the earth; The birds of prey will summer on them, And all the beasts of the earth will winter on them (Isaiah 18:6).
EXPOSITION
Today’s text contains a prophesy that is generally regarded as obscure. Many scholars agree that it is prophesy about God’s intervention in the defence of marginalized Jew against the Fear-some Assyrian army. It portrays the threat of Sennacherib against God’s people and God’s call to neighbouring nations to observe what He would do against the aggressors, etc. In fulfilment of this prophesy, Sennacherib sent his messengers to threaten the inhabitants of Jerusalem. Just when the Assyrian’s thought they had the city in their hands and were about plundering them, God routed their army through one single angel. Thus, Sennacherib’s soldier’s bodies were left together unto the fowls of the mountains and to the beast of the earth. Sennacherib himself suffered a terrible death in the hands of his own children. Thus, Judah and Ethiopia which had Assyrian as a common foe were miraculously delivered (Isa. 37).
The nation praised and worshipped God.
God still defend His people today. Even when it seems the devil and his cohorts are gaining the upper hand, and people of God are losing out, our heavenly Father will move swiftly to crush the enemy. We need not to panic but wok obediently and confidently with Him. Our victory les in trusting Him to fight our battles, even when the enemy seems to be encroaching on our camps to crush us. When we least expect, He would rise as the Kings to destroy the destroyer, crush the crusher and arrest the arrester.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Heavenly Father, I have no power to defend myself. Please Lord, defend me and my family, in Jesus’ name.
2. Father Lord, rescue all Christians in the camps of terrorists, in Jesus’ name.
3. Oh Lord, arise and defend the course of the body of Christ in Nigeria, Africa, and all over the world.
