Title: There is Power in the name of Jesus.
(Acts 19: 11-20) God did extraordinary miracles through Paul, so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick. and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them. Some Jews who went around driving out spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, “In the name of the Jesus whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out.” Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. One day the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?” Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all.
He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding. When this became known to the Jews and Greeks living in Ephesus, they were all seized with fear, and the name of the Lord Jesus was held in high honor. Many of those who believed now came and openly confessed what they had done. A number who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly. When they calculated the value of the scrolls, the total came to fifty thousand drachmas. In this way the word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power.Some of people engaged themselves in exorcism and occult practices to make money. Sons of Sceva had admired the power that was in Paul . Paul had the possession of His power from God. Not yeye, or fake power, supernatural power. They fail to realize that Paul’s power was not from witchcraft, but they surely knew that Paul’s power was above theirs. They discovered that no one can duplicate or mimic God’s power. They were calling on the name of Jesus without having personal relationship with Jesus. They Said in name of Jesu whom Paul preaches. Jesus’ name cannot be tapped by reciting His name like a magic charm. You must have personal encounter with Jesus before you can use His name effectively.
There is no magic in the real world of Christendom. Everything Is real. These Jews were going from place to place making a living by claiming to heal people and drive out demons. Often they would recite the list of names in their incantations. At this point they tried to use Jesus’ name to get the same power Paul was using. They were trying to borrow the power of God through Paul’s name. They actually found out that their magic power did not carry any water. All these fake miracles do not work, even if they work, it does not last.
This is also happening among us today. People are all over the place today, using Jesus name to do miracles, but adding some other magic power to deceive people and to make money. Instead of them to go to God direct to get that power, they want to use Short cut. There is no short cut in the Lord. He wants us to go through the proper channels to come to the knowledge of Him. People like to go through a Conner Conner way. One morning these men had a bad day when they tried to do their regular magic demonstration, the devil said Jesus I know, and Paul I know, who are you??
Do you know that when you are a child of God the Power if Christ will follow you? The devil had seen the power of Jesus in Paul, he had destroyed them, and Jesus had also put them in their places. So the devil was acknowledging the power of God , which he saw in Jesus and Paul. He couldn’t recognize these sons of Sceva, because they had no power. God is not happy when we use His name in vein.
You cannot be answering a believer and hold on to occult, magic power. or sorcery. The moment you have put your hand in any form of occultism you have turned your back on God. And you have exposed your life to Satan’s twisting drama. His power is powerless power, when God has healed you , your healing is permanent. God’s power is greater than the devil. Satan’s power is limited, he is a created being and he will be destroyed in the lake of fire someday. (Revelation 20:10)
If you are mixing the power of God with occultism, my beloved, you are an enemy of God, and you are taking a big risk. Learn the lesson from what happens to the sons of Sceva, and give your life to Christ today, and you will receive the supernatural power from heaven in Jesus mighty name.
May God help us to know the power that is in the Lord. In Jesus name.
Prayers: Oh Lord my God, please fill me with the power of the Holy Spirit. Oh Lord please Heal every wounded part of my life through the power of the Holy Spirit. Please Holy Spirit connect me to the circuit of your power In Jesus name. Help me oh Lord to know you as my Lord and savior so that my life will attract the favor and the power of God in My life in Jesus name. Amen.
