Thought For Today June 21, 2018 Topic - Letting the Word Work Within You
Acts 10:44-46
While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.
Thoughts for Today:
Colossians 3:16 tells us to "Let the Word of Christ dwell richly in you." Ephesians 5:18 tells us to "be filled with the Spirit." Both of these verses, one beginning in the Word and the other in the Spirit, continue almost identically -- speak to or teach "one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs," "wives submit to your husbands," "husbands love your wives," etc. Here's a question from our passage today: When did the Spirit come upon them? Answer: while Peter was still speaking the Word.
Do you want to be filled with the Holy Spirit? Do you want the full power of the Spirit? Do you want the power of the Spirit to help you change? Then "let the Word of God dwell richly in you." Something happens when we read, study and ponder God's Word (Scripture): the Holy Spirit is poured out upon us (verse 45) -- "even on the Gentiles." That means even on you and me. The only thing required is to be in God's Word.

Questions to Ponder:
There is no mistaking the power of God's Word, yet so many Christians miss this power because they don't open their Bibles frequently enough. The purpose of this Daily Devotion is to get you in God's Word every day -- is it working? Are you beginning to feel God's Spirit coming upon you? Are you beginning to lose your interest in things you know are not good for you? Are you developing a desire to serve? If so, it's working; keep it up every day! If you still find yourself glancing at this devotion only a couple of times a week, will you make a commitment today to reading it every day?
