Topic - When You Finally Get The Point
Acts 10:27-29a
Talking with him, Peter went inside and found a large gathering of people. He said to them: "You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with a Gentile or visit him. But God has shown me that I should not call any man impure or unclean. So when I was sent for, I came without raising any objection."
Thoughts for Today:
God had previously shown Peter through a vision something new (verses 11-15): "He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. Then a voice told him, 'Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.' 'Surely not, Lord!' Peter replied. 'I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.' The voice spoke to him a second time, 'Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.'" Although Peter was confused at first, when Cornelius men arrived he finally got it -- he understood the meaning of the vision -- "God has shown me that I should not call any man impure or unclean."
The simplicity of verse 29 from our passage today tells us a lot about the depth of Peter's understanding and willingness to obey, "So when I was sent for, I came without raising any objection." The neat thing is Peter made the association that it was not just "meat" the Lord was talking about -- He was talking about "people" as well -- he then put this new knowledge or enlightenment into immediate action -- "I came without raising any objection."

Questions to Ponder:
When we study the Bible, many times the Lord reveals to us a thought process or idea of ours that needs to change. The question is -- what do you do with the information? Do you, like Peter immediately look for an application or do you instead return to your old patterns and practices? What attitude or idea is the Lord speaking to you about right now? Are you willing to change your way of thinking? How will you apply that change today?
