CAC LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR SEPTEMBER 19, 2022 : TOPIC - MY MOTHER, MY TEACHER

--> Note :- Are you born again? You are never going to win the battle against the devil if you are not born again. I plead with you to give your life to Jesus today because the longer you stay in sin and remain unsaved, the more hardened your nature becomes against the purpose and the way God wants you to be for His purpose. To give your life to Jesus now, say this prayer: “Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus. I know that I am a sinner and I cannot save myself but Jesus died for me and shed His blood that I might be saved. Today, I accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Jesus, I ask You to come into my heart, be my Lord, wash me with Your blood and make me whole. I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Lord. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.” I congratulate you and welcome you to the family of God if you have sincerely said that prayer. Now you are fit to discover, know and walk in your destiny. TOPIC: MY MOTHER, MY TEACHER

READ: Proverbs 31:1-6

[1] The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.

[2] What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?

[3] Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.

[4] It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:

[5] Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

[6] Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.

MEMORISE:

Indeed, everyone who quotes proverbs will use this proverb against you: 'Like mother, like daughter!" (Ezekiel 16:44)

EXPOSITION

Probably you have once heard it said of a son or daughter, "He is the spitting image of his dad," or "She surely looks like her mother." This is true not only of the physical traits, but also of behavioural build-ups, whether they be good or bad. In Genesis 21:9, Ishmael was caught by Sarah, scoffing at his son, Isaac, a kind of behaviour his mother, Hagar, is reported to have demonstrated in despising her mistress, Sarah (16:4). Twice now, the mother and her son were sent away because of bad behaviour. What type of lesson do children learn from their home-fronts?

Proverbs (1:8; 6:20; 31:1) shows that every good mother has the responsibility of training her children the law of God and home manners, lest they become grief to her. For example, the sons of the house of Rechabites refused to drink wine even when asked to, by the renowned Prophet Jeremiah, for according to them, Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, commanded us, saying, 'You shall drink no wine, you nor your sons, forever' (Jer. 35:1-6). This attests to the fact that every home is the first school, though informal, where all children are raised for the society. And here, like what the unnamed mother of king Lemuel instructed his son in Proverbs 31, every mother plays a vital role as the first contact teacher from whom the child observes and learns the basics of life.

Dear mother, be like Mary, the betrothed wife of Joseph, who worked diligently to raise Jesus and His siblings in the law of the LORD. Never raise vagabonds or problem contributors.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Pray for God's forgiveness in any area where you have mistakenly or otherwise misled your children.

2. Henceforth, I will not fail in my responsibility to train my children in the way of the Lord.

3. Pray for women who are trusting God for the fruit of the womb, for divine visitations that would wipe their tears away with their Samuels.

HYMN FOR TODAY:
CAC GHB 74

1. For mercies, countless as the sands,
Which daily I receive
From Jesus, my Redeemer's hands,
My soul, what canst thou give?

2. Alas, from such a heart as mine,
What can I bring Him forth?
My best is stain'd and dyed with sin
My all is nothing worth.

3. Yet his acknowledgement I'll make
For all He has bestow'd
Salvation's sacred cup I'll take,
I 'll call upon my God.

4. The best return for one like me,
So wretched and so poor,
Is from His gifts to draw a plea,
And ask Him still for more.

5. I cannot serve Him as I ought
No works have I to boast;
Yet would I glory in the thought
That I shall owe Him most.

Amen.
