Read: Genesis 13:5-18

Genesis 13:5-18 Now Lot, who was moving about with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents.
But the land could not support them while they stayed together, for their possessions were so great that they were not able to stay together.
And quarreling arose between Abram’s herders and Lot’s. The Canaanites and Perizzites were also living in the land at that time.
So Abram said to Lot, “Let’s not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herders and mine, for we are close relatives.
Is not the whole land before you? Let’s part company. If you go to the left, I’ll go to the right; if you go to the right, I’ll go to the left.”
Lot looked around and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan toward Zoar was well watered, like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt. (This was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.)
So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan and set out toward the east. The two men parted company:
Abram lived in the land of Canaan, while Lot lived among the cities of the plain and pitched his tents near Sodom.
Now the people of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the Lord.
The Lord said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west.
All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever.
I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted.
Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you.”
So Abram went to live near the great trees of Mamre at Hebron, where he pitched his tents. There he built an altar to the Lord.

The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace (Exodus 14:14)

Undeniable, we face unpleasant situations here on earth. The enemies do everything to destroy us, but the hope that keeps us strong is that God defends us. Abraham had so many unpleasant experience in his journey from Haran to the Promised Land. Despite the fact that He yielded to God’s voice without wavering the he still faced his own share of life’s unpleasant experience. God already had it in His agenda to defend him when He covenanted with him (Gen. 12:3).

Again, in Gen. 12:10-20, when Abram came into Egypt and was faced with the greatest pains of life’s, losing the only woman he had in the hands of Pharaoh, God stood up for him along the line, there was the need for geographical separation due to God’s blessings and growth. Lot, took undue advantages of the simplicity of his uncle. It took God’s unsolicited and unexpected intervention to reassure Abraham of God’s blessings (13:14ff). In Gen. 20:2ff, Abraham had a similar experience with Abimelech, king of Gerar. The silent Defender showed up even when no one invited Him.

God intervened in Abram’s cases because he obeyed God without wavering. He feared God. He was a lover of peace who was contented with what God gave him. He also walked with God, and surrendered to Him. God is the unstoppable defender of our lives and properties. Halleluyah.

Christians have an archenemy, Satan (1 Peter. 5:8), but God is always at hand to give us victory over him; Christ conquered Jim on the Cross. Your battles are His. The weapons are His. What else? Relax.

1. O Lord, arise and fight for me in every area I am being oppressed, and grant me total victory.
2. Father, do not leave my household and me to the will of our enemies; prove Yourself as the Mighty Man in battle over our matters.
3. Fight for our nation, O Lord, and defend her from the hands of the terrorists and looters.
