TUESDAY, 7 APRIL

TEXT: LUKE 22: 24–46

TOPIC: THE GREATEST IN GOD’S KINGDOM

One great and major difference between God and man, between the spiritual and the worldly is the means and method of measurement, especially greatness, success and achievements. Here, the disciples were quarreling, just like the people of the world do, about the greatest among them (v24). Who is most recognized? Most notable? Most praised? Most popular? Most important? Most significant? Most distinguished? Most noble? Of high rank?

In the first instance, this issue is not important in God’s Kingdom and does not conform to kingdom thinking, Jesus told them (vs. 25-26). Rather, Jesus said, greatness from God’s perspective is service with humility in the kingdom and faithfulness in service. It is on this basis that God will judge or reward those He has enlisted to do His work, (vs. 26-27, 1 Cor. 4:1-5). Jesus promised the disciples and us that we will rule with Him when He comes in His kingdom, if we serve well here and are faithful (vs. 28-30). Let us be responsible, discharge the duties of our office or assignment, rather than look at what we will gain.

QUESTION: Are you serving in God’s kingdom for some popularity or greatness or serving to please God?

PRAYER: Lord, in you kingdom service, please help me to serve faithfully and in humility, Amen.
