TOPIC - Divine Friendship (II) 
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 26-28; Acts 22
FIRE SCRIPTURE: Genesis 20:1-7
MEMORY VERSE: “And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.” – James 2:23

The MESSAGE:
We established yesterday that being a friend of God is an awesome and highly rewarding experience. We also said that many Bible heroes were God’s friends and advised you to desire being a friend of God. The price you have to pay is nothing compared to the benefits you will enjoy. We added that God specially loves, defends and fights for His friends.
In our memory verse today, the Bible reveals a friend of God that predated Moses: Abraham. In the Fire Scripture, we read about Abimelech the king of Gerar who thought Sarah was Abraham’s sister; hence he sent for and took Sarah. Abraham had told Abimelech, Sarah was his sister because she was very beautiful and he feared that he could be harmed for Sarah’s sake. However, Abraham reaped the benefits of his friendship with God. First, God went to Abimelech in a dream and told him that he was a dead man because the woman he took was another man’s wife. Second, it was God Himself that restrained Abimelech from touching Sarah. God told Abimelech about Abraham’s special status with Him. He told Abimelech that Abraham was a prophet and that Abimelech and all that he had would die if he did not restore Sarah to her husband, Abraham. God also admonished Abimelech to go to Abraham for prayer and he would be restored. God defended His interest in the life of Abraham.
If you are a friend of God, Heaven will always watch over you and all that belong to you. You will be divinely protected and preserved. Heaven will also provide for all your needs and enlarge your coast. How can you become a friend of God? The first step is to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour and live in His will. In John 15:15, Jesus said “Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.” The second step you should take to be God’s friend is to be completely obedient to God. Jesus said that if you are His friend, you will obey His commandments. Abraham was obedient to God and God blessed him supernaturally. Today, when we talk about the blessings of Abraham, we should remember that it is the product of Abraham’s obedience. The third step to becoming God’s friend is to have absolute faith and trust in God. Abraham and Moses are shining examples in this regard. Lastly, you must be humble and be dedicated to your kingdom assignment. Moses was the meekest man on earth in his days and he was resolutely committed to the call of God as well as his service to God.
Beloved, it pays to be God’s friend. Elijah was spared physical death and was taken to heaven by chariots of fire God sent to pick him. He was God’s friend. Similarly, Elisha had access to deep secrets so much that the king of Israel thought someone was leaking palace secrets to Elisha. The truth is that Elisha was a member of God’s inner caucus and knew mysteries and secrets that other men did not know. I encourage you to become God’s bossom friend today. Your testimonies will be amazing.

  7. O God, arise and fight for me, in the name of Jesus.
