YOUR LAST RESORT
READ: Psalm 27:1ff
Psalms 27:1-14 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.
For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.
Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.
Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.
When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.
Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.
Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.
I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.
MEMORISE: When my father and my mother forsake me, Then the Lord will take care of me (Psalm 27:10).
EXPOSITION
In the banking industry, where notable money is not expected to be unavailable for whatever reason, financial institutions do experience shortage of money, many times, due to a number of reasons. The Central Banks, called the banker’s bank, remains the last resort for all commercial banks, in these times of insufficient funds. Likewise, in our daily life, things cannot just remain rosy at all times. Challenging times are inevitable for Christians. (Rom. 8:34-36). However, there will always be the way out, the very last hope when several others have failed.
Whom one resorts to during challenges matters and shows who one really is. There are times of downcast, depression, sickness, sorrow, loneliness, lowliness, bereavement and abandonment. For instance, today is the World Refugee Day, when United Nations raises awareness for the plight of refugees around the world. Who on earth can help put an end to incessant and bedeviling problems we face on earth? The Christians’ last and surest hope is undoubtedly Jesus Christ. As a matter of fact, the entire world’s hope rests on the LORD of lords, because its survival is within the effortless reach of the Master over all storms of life (Mk. 4:35-39).
It should not be a surprise, if people you least expect are the ones bruising your heel (Ps. 41:9). In times of distress, where your loved ones even forsake you, Jesus is always ready to take you and embrace you. All you need do is to totally bank upon His trust alone; He does not let one down, look up to Him always. God bless you.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, help me never to abandon You for anything on earth when trouble comes my way.
2. Oh Lord, please bring back our children who have wandered away in search of fake ‘greener pastures’.
3. Father, open the eyes of our political and church leaders to see You as their resort in this time of economic and political inconsistencies.
EXTRA READING FOR TODAY: I Chronicles 16:40 – 19:15; John 20:18 – 21:8.
