Anglican Church Of Nigeria Weekly Sunday School/ Bible Studies Manual For June 16, 2019 : Topic - TOPIC - Characteristics of godly Leadership 6

--> Note :- Are you born again? You are never going to win the battle against the devil if you are not born again. I plead with you to give your life to Jesus today because the longer you stay in sin and remain unsaved, the more hardened your nature becomes against the purpose and the way God wants you to be for His purpose. To give your life to Jesus now, say this prayer: “Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus. I know that I am a sinner and I cannot save myself but Jesus died for me and shed His blood that I might be saved. Today, I accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Jesus, I ask You to come into my heart, be my Lord, wash me with Your blood and make me whole. I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Lord. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.” I congratulate you and welcome you to the family of God if you have sincerely said that prayer. Now you are fit to discover, know and walk in your destiny. Study 2/12 June 16 Trinity Sunday

SUB THEME: GODLY LEADERSHIP.

TOPIC - Characteristics of godly Leadership 6

Mercy, Compassion, Kindness and Slow to anger.

MEMORY VERSE: Psalms 41:1 .

TEXTS: Mark.8:1-8; Luke 9:10-11 .

AIMS: To

i. help us understand ‘mercy’, ‘compassion’, ‘kindness’ and being
‘slow to anger’ in leadership;
ii. appreciate practical expressions of these virtues to ease application
as leaders;
iii. recognise the implications of not demonstrating these virtues as
leaders.

INTRODUCTION:

These four attributes are similar but have some difference.
Compassion produces the others. Therefore, to have mercy, be kind or slow to
anger demands that we develop compassion. Godly leaders need to develop
compassion like Jesus Christ ( Matt.15:32; 18:27; 20:34 ) because it nearly
always manifests in practical ways. With a shepherd’s attitude of compassion,
godly leaders can easily forgive and show kindness even in the worst of
situations to both their sheep and colleagues. Generally, compassion is either
enriched or triggered to action by knowledge or the Spirit’s inspiration .

STUDY GUIDE

1. Explain the meaning of these godly leadership virtues – ‘Mercy’,
‘Compassion’, ‘Kindness’, and ‘slow to anger. ’
2. Identify specific acts of ‘mercy’, ‘compassion’, ‘kindness’, or ‘being slow to
anger’ from: Matt.9:27-30; 15:32; 18:27; 20:34; Mark 8:1-8; Luke
9:10-11 .
3. What will be the results whether or not we demonstrate these virtues in
the Church? Gen.34:25-26 (cf. 49:5-7 ); Psalm 41:1-3; Prov.15:18;
Ezek. 34:2-6; Matt.18:28-34; Mark 8:3.
4. Are these virtues in short or abundant supply in your church
congregation? Why?

CONCLUSION:

 Demonstrating these virtues in the Church is required of every
Christian, especially leaders. This is because the virtues (or character traits)
are an essential attribute of God in whom we profess faith. Without them,
fruitful growing of a congregation may be an illusion .

FOOD FOR THOUGHT:

To profess faith in Christ without these virtues is an
anomaly.

MEMORY VERSE: Psalms 41:1 .
