TOPIC - Hold the Forth
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Joshua 9-10; Luke 5:17-39
FIRE SCRIPTURE: Revelation 2:9-11
MEMORY VERSE: “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” – Isaiah 43:2

The MESSAGE:
The message of the Lord to the church at Smyrna reveals the experience of many believers today who are facing terrible persecution in some nations of the world. As in the case of the assembly at Smyrna who were persecuted for the faith, no matter what experience God’s people may have, the Lord will always identify with them.
There is a shocking revelation in the word of the Lord to the Christians in Smyrna. Even though they suffered tribulation and abject material poverty, the Lord still recognised them as rich. They lived for eternal values that would never change, riches that could never be taken away. Even though poor by economic standards, they were the ones making many others rich (2 Corinthians 6:10). In fact, their suffering for Christ only increased their riches.
Our struggles are not with flesh and blood, but with the enemy, satan, who uses people to accomplish his evil purposes. As a child of God, you may not have enjoyed the approval of men for your faith, but certainly you will receive the commendation of God. Do not be afraid and never surrender to wicked persecutions. We must learn from the Smyrna Christians. The Lord assured them that He knew the devil’s plans and was in complete control of the situation. Some of the believers would be imprisoned and tried as traitors in Rome. Yet their tribulation would not be long. The important thing was faithfulness, standing true to Christ no matter what the persecutors might threaten to do. This is a clear message for those facing extreme torments and persecution as a result of their faith.
The Lord reinforced the promise given in James 1:12, “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.” The Lord assured His people that there was nothing to fear. Because they had trusted Him, they were overcomers -victors in the race of faith. And, as overcomers, they had nothing to fear. Even if they were martyred, they would be ushered into glory, wearing crowns! They would never face the awful judgement of the second death, which is the lake of fire (Revelation 20:14, 21:8).
It sometimes costs to be a dedicated Christian in some places more than others. As end time pressures increase, persecution will also increase; and God’s people need to be ready. The world may call us “poor Christians”, but in God’s sight we are rich! The world may burn down our churches, but we must not be intimidated. They may cast us into prison but we must not yield to their pressure. Always bear in mind that the Lord knows what we are passing through and is rightly on our side to strengthen us. You must keep in mind that only those who overcome shall not be hurt by the second death. Maranatha!

  4. Satanic devices to harvest my soul to hell fire, catch fire and burn to ashes, in the name of Jesus.
  5. Power to confront and conquer, enter me now by fire, in the name of Jesus.
  6. O Lord, behold their threatening, stretch out Your mighty hand like in the days of the apostles, in the name of Jesus.
  7. I shall make it to the end. O God, arise, stop them that want to stop me, in the name of Jesus.
