TOPIC - Say No to Divorce 
Bible In One Year: Numbers 17-19; Mark 6:30-56
FIRE SCRIPTURE: Malachi 2:9-17
MEMORY VERSE: “For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.” – Malachi 2:16

The MESSAGE:
God hates and forbids divorce. The cause of divorce is hardness of heart. Behind every broken marriage is a heart hardened against God, then hardened against your spouse. From the very beginning, God’s intention for marriage was that it be for life. Realising this, believers should exercise care in choosing a mate (2 Corinthians 6:14). Yet no marriage will be so free of differences and difficulties that it could not end up in divorce if the husband and wife were deceived into following their natural inclinations.
First, the devil will exaggerate your mate’s failures and inadequacies. You must realise that your spouse is a work in progress in God’s hand just as you too are. Remember and heed the Bible’s injunction that you bear each other’s burden. Correct her in love and be always ready to forgive. You must work for the spiritual and physical development of your spouse and help him or her to make heaven. Be guided by God’s word and not by your instinct or by the enemy.
Second, the devil will sow suspicion and jealousy in your heart and in your mate’s heart against you. The enemy’s sole agenda is to destroy your union. Do not be ignorant of his devices. There was once a woman whom the devil deceived and made to believe that her husband was having an affair. When she later found out that he was not, she apologised to her husband and his colleague she had accused and abused. There was also a man who believed that every call that his wife received, apart from his own, was from a lover somewhere. He too later found out it was not true. In each of these cases, the suspicious wife and husband had had sleepless nights and needless worries and pain. Don’t let the devil deceive and mislead you!
Also, the devil will want you to indulge in self-pity, discouragement and depression. Many have, as a result of this, foolishly taken to alcoholism as an escape route, drugs and some have felt disappointed and committed suicide. Don’t let the enemy wrongly influence you. Confront and smite him with the word of God; he will flee from you.
Similarly, the enemy will make you feel highly disappointed in your spouse and resolve not to give him or her the benefit of doubt or consider forgiveness. He will insist you deserve someone better and hold out the hollow promise that things would be better with someone else.
Beloved, the devil is a liar from the beginning and the father of lies. His main goal is to see the ship of your marriage capsize. Obey God and say no to divorce. God’s commandment is not grievous!

  7. Lord Jesus, come and be the Prince of Peace in my home, in the name of Jesus.
