DESTROYER OR REFORMER
Read 2 Chronicles 28:23-27
MEMORISE
“Do not remove the ancient land mark which your fathers have set” (Proverbs 22:28)
Exposition
A destroyer is anyone/anything that causes damage beyond repairs, while a reformer is a person who amends what has been defective, vicious, corrupted or depraved.
King Ahaz, unlike his father, did evil and refused to follow the ways of the LORD (v.28). He walked in the ways of the wicked kings that reigned before him. He abused the house of God, cut in pieces the vessels, and shut up the doors. His reign was worse than his predecessors’. He died ingloriously, for he was not buried in the sepulchres of the kings.
A popular saying goes, “Like begets like,” but this is contrary with King Ahaz. His son, King Hezekiah reigned in his stead and did that which was right in the sight of the Lord (2 Chr. 29:1ff). He amended the things destroyed by his father. He opened and repaired the LORD’S house, restored the Priests and Levites to their offices, sanctified the vessels, and made the people return to worshipping and serving the Lord.
What is your impact toward restoring godliness in our nation? Do not join the multitude to do evil. Be the Hezekiah of your generation.
Are you a reformer or a destroyer? What contributions have you made toward repairing, restoring and reshaping what has been damaged in your home, marriage, church, community and the entire society? Make a good choice today, so that it will be said and recorded that you did Your best. Receive this name today: a repairer of the breach (Isaiah 58:11-14). Happy Independence Day, Nigeria.
PRAYER POINTS
1. I refuse to be a destroyer of the godly heritage which I inherited in God’s kingdom, in Jesus’ name.
2. Lord, give me the heart and spirit of a reformer in my generation.
3. Father, give our leaders (political and religious) the hearts of reformers, in line with Your purpose, as they discharge their duties.
