TOPIC: THE FINISHED WORK OF CHRIST (II)
Read: Daniel 9:23-27
MEMORISE:
Looking unto Jesus, the author and
finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set
before Him endured the cross, despising the
shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the
throne of God (Hebrews 12:2).
EXPOSITION
We thank God for the finished work of Christ on
the cross. We thank Him for the righteousness of
Christ that has been imputed on all who believe.
As recipients of such an amazing grace, we are
called to live by grace and to walk in Christ’s
righteousness. The Bible tells us that we have
been saved (Col. 1:21-22), are still being saved
(Phil. 2:12) and will eventually be fully saved
(Matt. 10:22; Mk. 13:13; Col. 1:21-23).
The renowned Bible teacher, David Pawson, puts
it this way: “At conversion, we are saved from the
PENALTY of sin; as we grow in holiness, we are
being saved from the POWER of sin; and
eventually, as we remain faithful to the end, we
will be completely saved from the PRESENCE of
sin.” The work of Christ to redeem us from sin
was finished on the cross at Calvary and what
that means, is that Christ’s earthly work was
done. But salvation is a process, not something
that happens at a single point in time. And that
process of lost sinners getting saved began when
we first repented of our sins and believed in Jesus
as Lord and Saviour, thus process continues as
we walk with Him by faith and obedience and
serve Him in sincerity and humility.
While Christ finished His work, there is still an
unfinished work in us, a work that would not
eventually finish if Jesus had not finished His
work first. So, know that you are loved, treasured,
saved, and still being saved.
We are to remain in the righteousness of Christ
each day, and that means we must choose to
walk righteously. Be careful not to assume that
Christ has done all the work and you need to do
nothing and need not walk in righteousness.
Jesus told His disciples in John 15 to abide in
Him and let His words abide in them so that they
may bear much fruit. He warned them that a
branch that bears no fruit will be cut off and
thrown into fire.
Continue to love God, hate sin and stay on the
path of Christ’s righteousness. Be focused on
Christ and His finished work for us That is, when
you are sure of making His heaven at last. It is
well with you today and always, in Jesus’ name.
PRAYER POINTS
1. I refuse to continue in sin. Lord, help me
because of Your finished work on Calvary.
2. Lord, help me to be sin-sensitive, sin-resistant,c
and heavenly conscious.
3. Lord, set free all those struggling with drug
addiction by Your power.
