TOPIC - SINCERE SINNER
Read: Psalm 51:1-19
MEMORISE: He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy (Proverbs 28:13).
EXPOSITION
There is a wise saying, “If the offender does obeisance before his judge, he may not have to suffer long.” In the nutshell, a sinner who knows he has committed an offence, with a view to renouncing it, stands in position to receive forgiveness and mercy than a hardened sinner, who stubbornly refuses to accept his errors, regardless of how found or proven guilty. The eleventh hour mercy that a malefactor received from our undying Christ on the Cross can attest to this. He was sincere with his sins and consequently obtained mercy. (Lk. 23:40-43).
It needs not be said again that sin originated from the devil, Satan, the first sinner. (1 Jn. 3:8). This singular action renders all sinners Satan’s. When Adam sinned, by extension, mankind becomes sinner. However, thank God, for sending the second Adam in Person of Jesus Christ, Who came to destroy works of the Devil. (1 Jn 3:8-9).
Having known the fact that all are inherently sinner, repentance is, therefore non-negotiable instrument for salvation stemming from the redemption Jesus perfected for us. You must be sincere with yourself when it comes to sin and sinning. When you are aware that you are helpless, at the mercy of the Almighty Forgiver, there is absolutely no reason to want to try to hide your errors, faults, weaknesses, trespasses and transgressions away from the One who has put our secret sins in the Light of His countenance (Psa. 90:8).
David, in our reference today, as kingly as he was, when convicted of his sins, was both remorseful and repentant. David was sincere with himself and hid nothing from His Creator. This is why he received mercy from God to be able to pick up the shattered pieces of his life and move on. Not many people would be able to peak up from where David did, but for his sincerity.
It is not enough to continue to brood over the sins you have committed. That is not sufficient enough to replace sincerely confessing, repenting of, and forsaking them (Prov. 28:13). And, you know what? God’s mercy is still waiting for you, irrespective of the magnitude of your errors. You will receive mercy.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Oh Lord, help me to be sincere when overtaken with my fault.
2. Go before God to honestly confess your transgressions to Him.
3. Pray for Christians who the devil is holding down with the guilt of their past sins, that they would summon the courage to return to God in repentance.
