C.A.C SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON UNIT II: MAN'S LOVE TOWARD MAN FOR September 30, 2018 : TOPIC - LOVE ACTIONS WITH RESPECT TO MOSES

--> Note :- Are you born again? You are never going to win the battle against the devil if you are not born again. I plead with you to give your life to Jesus today because the longer you stay in sin and remain unsaved, the more hardened your nature becomes against the purpose and the way God wants you to be for His purpose. To give your life to Jesus now, say this prayer: “Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus. I know that I am a sinner and I cannot save myself but Jesus died for me and shed His blood that I might be saved. Today, I accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Jesus, I ask You to come into my heart, be my Lord, wash me with Your blood and make me whole. I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Lord. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.” I congratulate you and welcome you to the family of God if you have sincerely said that prayer. Now you are fit to discover, know and walk in your destiny. C.A.C SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON  UNIT II: MAN'S LOVE TOWARD MAN FOR September 30, 2018 : TOPIC - LOVE ACTIONS WITH RESPECT TO MOSES

C.A.C SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON
UNIT II: MAN'S LOVE TOWARD MAN.
September 30, 2018.

LESSON SIX
LOVE ACTIONS WITH RESPECT TO MOSES

God stationed people around Moses to show him what His love meant --- midwives, the parents, Miriam, the Egyptian princess, etc. Thank God Moses didn't keep the love to himself. He extended it to others.

MEMORY SCRIPTURE
But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the male children alive (Exodus 1:17).

BRIEF COMMENT
There is no gainsaying that "the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom". God's love for Moses actually put some people's lives to test and thus exposed them to high risk but also great blessings. He created man with the power of choice. Thank God for these two Hebrew women (midwives), who would not follow the multitude to do evil (Ex. 23:2). God's love to save Moses' life got the midwives approved in line of their duties. They must have known that all human professions belong to God and so, saw the need to represent  Him and not man. It is risky, to dare the cruel and a tyrant king as Pharaoh; but, to them, it was even more risky if they ignored the prompting of Holy Spirit. The Hebrews were known to be brave and courageous (Dan. 3:16-18; Act. 5:29). Their faith in God was the motivating factor for obedience. They probably remembered that "whosoever sheds man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed" (Gen. 9:6). No matter where you work, school, or do business, God expects you to stand for and with Him. Instead of getting the perishable rewards from Pharaoh, they chose to align with God and invariably got His blessings. You are secure whenever you act God's script. God's interest in Moses with the cooperation of these midwives actually saved other male children who would have been killed. No wonder. Moses would not stop at anything to see the children of Israel fared well.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
1.    God has a way of putting people around us to show His love to us. Do you appreciate these gestures properly?
2.    How you see people around you determines your attitude toward them. Do you see them as enemies, antagonists or destiny partners? Remember What you do to others will definitely come back to you.

BACKGROUND SCRIPTURES: Romans 9:13-18

AIM AND OBJECTIVES
AIM: To show that God's love will make Him do all things possible, using anyone He wills to preserve His own people.

OBJECTIVES: At the end of this 2-week lesson, learner should:
i.    be able to discuss how Moses was delivered from death;
ii.   be able to draw lessons of love from the attitude of the two Hebrew midwives to the killing of the male Jewish boys at birth;
iii.  have better understood and be able to discuss the importance of Priest Jethro in Moses' family and ministry; and
iv.  have better understood and be able to defend that God's work and people supercede personal ambitions.

INTRODUCTION
TEXTUAL SOURCE: EXODUS 1-3,18; 32:30-35; NUMBERS 27:12-23
Glory be to the living God for the just concluded lesson five, with the topic: LOVE DISPLAYED IN JACOB'S FAMILY. In a way, it introduced the second unit of this series, and has brought great blessings of God to us.

In lesson 5, we examine and contrasted 3 personalities yet from the same blood. While Jacob foolishly followed his father Isaac who was partial in his dealings with his children, Joseph displayed open love to his brothers, not avenging after all the evil they did to him. It is hoped that all of us have learnt our lessons as whatever a man sows, most especially as it has to do with demonstrating love, he shall reap. May we not reap condemnation in Jesus name.

This is lesson 6 and the second in unit II. It is titled, LOVE ACTIONS WITH RESPECT TO MOSES. This week and the next, God has chosen to help us to examine how love from some people saved Moses' life at different points. The godly decisions of the midwives to spare Moses life was an affront against the tyrant king's order.

Moses was also lucky to have had a good and loving in-law who was not just an in-law but a father, whose positive impact in his life and ministry's success cannot be overemphasized.

As love is reciprocal, Moses also showed love to others around him, most especially, the people that God sent him to (Israel) and his successor, Joshua. How all of these happened and their implications for our Christian living today, are the focus of this discourse. Come Holy Spirit and help us, in Jesus' name. Amen.

INTRODUCTION TO EACH DIVISION
This lesson is divided into sections I and II, which are further divided into A and B respectively.

DIVISION I: MOSES WAS LOVED
This division examines the different people that God used to show love to Moses, who had a great destiny to fulfill. The first of these people were Shiphrah and Puah, who were Hebrew midwives. They dared the king's order to destroy all males that would be born at that time, and spared Moses' life and that of other male children. His parents and sister also risked their lives for his sake. Part B discusses Priest Jethro's great impact in Moses' life, family and ministry. This was a payback time for him as he had previously saved Jethro's daughters. Good in-laws are great lovers.

DIVISION II: MOSES ALSO SHOWED LOVE
This second division also has two parts, A and B. Moses, who had enjoyed great love from people also showed love to others. This time, he risked his own life interceding for his flocks (Israel). He even preferred to die than God destroying his flock. So, he went up to God in prayers on behalf of his people ---- good shepherd indeed. In the second part, we would see his submission to God's will as he prayed and poured himself on his successor, even when it was clear that God had dropped him. There are great lessons for us here.

LESSON OUTLINE
I.     MOSES WAS LOVED
       A.    PEOPLE AT HIS BIRTH
       B.    PRIEST JETHRO'S IMPACT
II.    MOSES ALSO SHOWED LOVE
       A.    RISKILY INTERCEDED FOR PEOPLE.
       B.    OBEDIENTLY PRAYED FOR HIS SUCCESSOR

LESSON EXPOSITION
I.    MOSES WAS LOVED (Exodus 1-3,18).
To be loved is to be shown strong and constant affection, devotion and passion. Sometimes, there is an aura that attracts the one to the other. In Moses' case, it was the design of God for the destiny placed on his head. It is an enjoyable thing to be loved.

A.    PEOPLE AT HIS BIRTH (1:13-22; 2:1-4,7-10)
But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the male children alive (1:17).
i.    1:13-15: A strategy of the Egyptian to stop the miraculous geometry growth of the children of Israel (vv. 9-14) was to stifle life out of the male children at birth. Shiphrah and Puah were chiefly contracted.
ii.   vv. 16-17: The fear of God (Prov. 1:7; Matt. 2:16) and their kind-heartedness emboldened the midwives to do otherwise (Matt. 2:8,12). Never be intimidated into working against God's plan! Kindness pays.
iii.  vv. 18-22: Were the Midwives not aware that the king would ask questions? No! But they preferred to love, fear and obey the King of kings than probably receive rewards from Pharaoh (cf. Ll. 9:25). Won't you misbehave against God and His people, if you are promised some mouth-watering gifts? (Matt. 26:47,48)
iv.  2:2-3,9,10: Moses' parents love for him was too risky. What a great parents! They saw a goodly child who they could not lose to the blood-sucking king. To what extent can you go to realize God's desire on your children?
v.   vv. 4,7,8: Miriam, probably ten years old, was also put in a risky situation at the riverside. Love is about sacrifice. Their love for Moses and their faith in God to secure them in all the plans were the motivating factors.
vi.  She was determined to see her brother live at all cost. So, she promptly suggested to Pharaoh's daughter the need for a Hebrew nurse which happened to be the child's mother. Don't keep silent where you ought to speak for the gospel's sake (Est. 4:14).

B.    PRIEST JETHRO'S IMPACT (2:21,22;3:1; 18:5-25)
And Jethro, Moses' father in-law, came with his wife to Moses in the wilderness, where he was encamped at the mountain of God (18:5).
i.    2:21,22: Moses had selflessly defended Jethro's daughters against the marauders (Exo. 2:16-19). Then, Priest Jethro allowed God to use him to gradually begin to give Moses' life shape, by helping him to become a family man (cf. 18:2-4). That in itself is love. Hope you don't forget those you meet while climbing up?
ii.   3:1: By extension of love, Jethro gave his in-law an occupation. By providence, Moses had become part of that family. What is the state of your relationship with your in-laws? Cordial? (cf. Lk. 10:29-37)
iii.  18:5-7: In furtherance of his love for Moses Jethro agreed to look after Moses' family while he was away.
iv.  vv. 7-12: Jethro was duly interested in Moses' welfare and success. Love rejoices at the success of others. Hope you aren't envious of others success, or overcome by inferiority complex (cf. I Cor. 13:4,5)?
v.   vv. 13:25: Jethro's genuine love for Moses came to play again. He showed great and open concern for his in-law's business and health. As an elderly and experienced priest and shepherd, he gave quality counsel that became part of Moses' success story. Love is demonstrated, not defined.
vi.  Love is that condition in which  the happiness of another is essential to your own. Jethro must have seen Moses as part of his children to whom he could not hide his experiences, both on the job of shepherding and family wise. You need godly, experienced and loving persons by your side. Listen to them!

LESSON DERIVED
1.   Everyone is a minister of God. You are called to serve Him in your field of endeavour, the ultimate of which is to save lives.
2.  What you see in your children/wards/in-laws determines what risk you take on and for them. Has Jesus not risked His all for you?

WORK TO DO
True love for God and His people would make us do the right things to people in whatever positions of power/responsibility we find ourselves. Explain this with regard to the midwives 'attitude to the king's order.

SUGGESTED ANSWER TO WORK TO DO
i.     Your love for God can only be visible in your relationship with others (Phil. 2:4)
ii.    You can't claim to love God without loving His people, work and way.
iii.   We need to acknowledge the supremacy of God over all things, people and wishes.
iv.   The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. If you fear Him, you will do His will.
v.    Christian are God's ambassadors in their respective professions.
vi.   Because the midwives feared God, they dared the king and his rewards; after all, it was God who puts one in position (Est. 4:14)
vii.  Note that the boss is not God. Sometimes, he can be in error. Your fear and love for God will help you to displease him and eternally save your life.
viii. God dealt well with the midwives, after all, it is the blessing of God that makes one rich without adding any sorrow to it (Prov. 10:22).
