AUGUST 29, 2018 CAC LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE : TOPIC - HEART OF THE MATTER

--> Note :- Are you born again? You are never going to win the battle against the devil if you are not born again. I plead with you to give your life to Jesus today because the longer you stay in sin and remain unsaved, the more hardened your nature becomes against the purpose and the way God wants you to be for His purpose. To give your life to Jesus now, say this prayer: “Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus. I know that I am a sinner and I cannot save myself but Jesus died for me and shed His blood that I might be saved. Today, I accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Jesus, I ask You to come into my heart, be my Lord, wash me with Your blood and make me whole. I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Lord. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.” I congratulate you and welcome you to the family of God if you have sincerely said that prayer. Now you are fit to discover, know and walk in your destiny. TOPIC - HEART OF THE MATTER

Read 1 Corinthians 8:1-13

MEMORISE

Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never again eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble (1 Corinthians 8:13).

EXPOSITION

As the Corinthians quarrelled about eating food offered to idols, Apostle Paul sought to make peace by going into the heart of the matter. The heart of the matter was not so much about what to eat or what not to eat. The heart of the matter was whether the church has love for one another. Hence, the advice was that if eating meat sacrificed to idols causes my brother to stumble, then let me choose not to eat even if it doesn't matter to my own soul.

Am I prepared to give up my "rights" in order that others can benefit from the sacrifice? Do I even think about these "rights" in the first place? When I come back from home after a tired day at work, I have the right to rest. Yet, when my children occasionally ask me to play with them the moment I come back home, will it benefit them to insist on my rest or could I have my rest later? The real issue is, "Do I really love them and want them to know that Jesus is helping me to love them?" Paul facilitated Timothy's  circumcision so that the Jews would not be offended (Acts 15:19-22; 16:1-4). Paul refused to be a burden to the brethren to strengthen their faith (1Thess.2:9,10;  3:7,8). Jesus paid tax so as not to offend some people (Matt. 17:26,27).

The choice is clear, but so many of us still struggle. As the Lord wills it, may He who is able, help us to deny our own rights for the benefit of others. Amen. That is the heart of the matter.

 PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, give me wisdom to decipher the truth, no matter how deep it is.
2. Lord, save me from the danger of claiming and sticking to my so called rights always, at the detriment of Your eternal purpose.
3. Lord, help all Christian leaders to make the sacrifice that you expect of them for the furtherance of the gospel in the land.
