TOPIC: ASKING ARIGHT
Read: 2 Chronicles 1:7-12
MEMORISE: Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us (1 John 5:14).
EXPOSITION
There are several occasions when we ask from our omniscient Maker but receive nothing because we ask amiss (Jas. 4:3). Our memory scripture reveals to us how we can receive whenever we ask from God–asking according to His will (1 Jn. 5:14).
The young King Solomon, in our text, recognised and appreciated that he had received great favour from the God of his father, David, as David’s successor out of the numerous brothers (v. 8). He was given the privilege to ask for anything he wanted (v. 7). He wisely asked in accordance with the will of his Maker, what was needed at that moment to carry out his God-given onerous task. He prayed an effective and efficient prayer. The character of people appear in their choices and desires. He chose spiritual blessings over and against the temporal. His conclusion and prayer was, Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this great people of Yours? (2 Chro. 1:10)
The outcome: God gave him the wisdom he asked for and added wealth and honour that he did not ask for. No wonder, the Word of God says, But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you (Matt. 6:33).
Suffice it to say that we should pray to Him to help us ask in accordance with His will so as not to waste our precious time in the place of prayers (cf. Rom. 8:26). God knows all we need but He still wants us to ask in prayer. So, ASK ACCORDING TO HIS WILL.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, I release my wish and will to Your will; take total control of my life.
2. Lord, give me the good things of life that flow from Your hands.
3. Lord, restore the attitude of right praying in Your Church.
