TOPIC: WHO IS YOUR FRIEND? (I)
Read: 1 Samuel 18:1-4
MEMORISE: _And Jonathan took off the robe that was on him and gave it to David, with his armor, even to his sword and his bow and his belt_ (1 Samuel 18:4).
EXPOSITION
The matter of friendship is a familiar issue. However, friends surpass friends (cf. Prov. 18:24). The Holy Spirit wants us to learn in another dimension the nature of friends that exist, and how to carefully choose them. We need our friends, and our friends need us. But can two walk together, unless they are agreed? (Amos. 3:3).
We will consider the four basic operations in Mathematics: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. First, Additive friend: These are friends that add good and valuable things to your life. They add knowledge, experience, material, money and above all, Jesus Christ, to your life. They won’t be satisfied until they have added quality things to your life.
Second: the Subtractive friends: These are friends who have nothing to add up to you except to always take from you. In the primary school, subtraction is nicknamed “take away”. Such friends take away your clothes, shoes, books, underwear, money and others, even without your direct or indirect consent, and no return is made. If care is not taken, we have friends who have taken away wives, properties and even lives of their so called friends!
Dear reader, who have you chosen as your friend? A plus or minus friends? You have your destiny in your own hands to do the needful now. May your friend(s) be positive additives to your life, family and career in Jesus’ name,
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord Jesus, You are the only true Friend I have and know. Help me to stick to You all the days of my life.
2. Oh Lord, assist me to choose my friends with Your wisdom to avoid unnecessary heartbreaks.
3. Pray for our school children that God should save them from undue peer pressure.
