TOPIC - DANIEL'S INTERCESSORY PRAYER
Read Daniel 9:1-22
MEMORISE
Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church (Acts 12:5).
EXPOSITION
Intercessory prayer is the kind of prayer that pleads with God for the needs of others. It also involves taking hold of God's will and refusing to let go until His will comes to pass.
Daniel was about 85 years old when he read that Jerusalem must lay captive for 70 years (Jer. 25:11; 29:10). Therefore, he began an intense and prolonged prayer to God. He confessed his personal and Israel's national sins and reminded God of His covenants.
Christians are to pray to God on behalf of others, wholeheartedly. We should recognise our own unworthiness with a sense of self- denial and accept the fact that, true intercessory prayer seeks to know God's will, sees it fulfilled. Whether it benefits you or not, it should be to the glory of God.
We should cultivate the habit of praying for those in authority rather than condemning or criticising them (1 Tim. 2:2). We should pray for ministers of God (Phil. 1:19), our friends (Job 42:8), the sick (James 5:14), our enemies (Jer. 29:7), those who forsake us (2 Tim. 4:16), our country (Psa. 122:6), and sinners (2 Pet.3:9).
God responded to Daniel's plea as He stirred up hearts of the three powerful Persian Kings to release Judah from captivity, and the exiles returned to Jerusalem.
God awaits our intercessory prayers. He is still delivering people from the captivity of sin, sickness and Satan if only we can pray. Intercessory prayer is the master key to the desired change in our nation and churches. Begin now!
PRAYER POINTS
1. Father, arise and deliver those who are oppressed by sin, Satan and the world, now,in Jesus' name.
2. Lord, send the fire of the revival of repentance and holiness to our churches, today, in Jesus' name.
3. Practically pray for as many as you can within this limited period. Do it with faith and see God in action.
