THE LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE
Monday, July 9, 2018
TOPIC: DANGER OF JEALOUSY
Read: Numbers 12:1-8
MEMORISE:
So they said, "Has the Lord indeed spoken only through Moses? Has He not spoken through us also?" And the LORD heard it. (Numbers 12:2)
EXPOSITION
Envy and jealousy are two terminal spiritual heart diseases that never spare their hosts. It was most unfortunate that Aaron and Miriam (leading spiritual leaders) got caught up in diseased passion against Moses, their own blood brother. Moses, the servant of God was not a stranger to criticism and people’s murmurings, but for these to come from members of his own family, was most deadly.
Their jealousy was veiled with their seeming concern about Moses’ marriage to a foreigner. But the real issue was their feelings of bitterness that stemmed from Moses’ superior profile and authority. The result was that God called them to account and eventually punished Miriam with leprosy, and it is most likely one of the reasons Aaron lost the Promise Land.
Observe how Moses himself handled the situation. He did not defend himself or rejoice over Miriam’s woes. Rather, he interceded for her to be cleansed from the leprosy. No wonder he was adjudged to be the meekest on earth. Opportunities in life, especially spiritual privileges are God’s prerogative and no man takes this honour to himself, but he who is called by God *(Hebrews 5:4)*
Every malicious word or move made by anyone walking in the path of trouble-making against God-ordained authority will not go unaccounted for. Veiling the venom of jealousy with seemingly pious concerns will not lessen its harm to our souls.
Resolve and pray this day to be free from the poison of jealousy. Look inward and see what you have that others do not have. God is gracious. He gives to all, His own peculiar gift, according to His eternal purpose and programme, and the ability of each individual. Therefore, stop that act of jealousy against that person. Work on your own potentials instead of eyeing others’!
PRAYER POINTS
1. Heavenly Father, let every war I am fighting because of jealousy be stopped, now, in Jesus’ name.
2. Lord God, deliver me from the evil emotion of the spirit of jealousy, today.
3. Lord, visit our pastorates and stop every war of jealousy/envy raging on there, in Jesus’ name.
