TOPIC: YOUR LIFE IN YOUR HANDS
Read: Judges 12:1-6
MEMORISE:
So when I saw that you would not deliver me, I took my life in my hands and crossed over against the people of Ammon; and the LORD delivered them into my hand. Why then have you come up to me this day to fight against me?_ (Judges 12:3).
EXPOSITION
Life is full of challenges; sometimes, these challenges could be daunting and seemingly undefeatable. Consequently, some people throw their hands in the sky in absolute surrender without a drop of sweat. But those who take the bull by the horn confront their challenges, stripping stones till they sing the song of victory.
Jephthah, faced with imminent danger of extermination of his people by the Ephraimites, decided to mobilize his men for battle. He had looked up to the people of Ephraim for assistance when the children of Ammon came against them; an assistance he never obtained. Ephraim was merely looking for an excuse to attack Gilead, probably underrating their military capability. Eventually, the escaped Ephraimites were also slaughtered as they failed the acid test of properly pronouncing “Shibboleth”.
There are clear lessons to learn from the conduct and leadership of Jephthah. It was inspiring. He mobilized, inspired, and instilled confidence in his people to take up the challenge of the Ephraimites, and at the end, they were victorious. Today, he is remembered as the man who said, in respect of his vow of God: _For I have given my word to the Lord, and I cannot go back on it_ (Jdg. 11:35).
Victory awaits all who are determined, like Jephthah, in fighting the battles of life. Christ has promised no one a stress-free or easy life in this world. He has assured that the believer shall have tribulations, but that He has ready-made ample provisions for the believer’s non-negotiable victory over such challenges (Jn. 16:33). Most assuring and comforting is the fact that, it is through such tribulations that He assists the courageous to overcome and prevail.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Oh Lord, give me the spirit-motivated guts to take the God-expected risks to get to my God-ordained destiny, immediately and ultimately.
2. Oh Lord, help me to triumph over my enemies so that I would have unbelievable testimonies this month.
3. Father in heaven, come to the aid of Your Church: help both the leadership and membership to take the necessary risks that would not allow the answers of hell to overcome her.
