READ: Revelation 19:6-10
MEMORISE: _Then he said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!'" And he said to me, "These are the true sayings of God"_ (Revelation 19:9)
EXPOSITION
It is typical these days to see someone event venues heavily guarded to prevent the uninvited persons from intruding. It is not only red-carpet events that adopt this style; some social wedding ceremonies are also marked “strictly by invitation.” It mains that it is not for all comers, and that gate-crashing would not be permitted. In some of such events, dress codes are specified, which also means that, even if someone is invited, if he/she does not have the approved attire, he may not be allowed to enter the venue.
In the marriage ceremony where Christ the Chief Bridegroom would wed His bride (all whom have deliberately and consciously accepted His lordship from all corners of the earth), only the invited would be admitted into the venue. However, in some world social events that are marked “strictly by invitation,” some guards would still allow uninvited people to enter, after much argument or through gratification. It is not going to be so in the Lamb’s Marriage Supper. This is because the stern-looking guards will not go contrary to the instruction of the Chief Host (the awesome God, the Father).
Another major difference between the worldly invitation and that sent by Christ, is that, there is no partiality. Jesus has since extended the invitation to everyone. As many as would accept the invitation are free to attend; Christ’s appropriated righteousness qualifies them. In our text, the acceptable attire for the occasion with the Lamb is a fine linen (clean and white) which depicts the righteousness of Christ imputed on the saints.
The hope of every believer is to be called into Christ’s presence forever and be found worthy for that unique event that will be hosted by Christ Himself. Someone says: “Over here, our best bib and bucker soon depreciates with time. But over there, we shall be clothed in priceless and pristine white raiment. We shall also wear crowns of glory incomparable with any in this world.” This should and must be our hope. Are you qualified?
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord Jesus, may I not miss the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, in Jesus’ name.
2. Holy Spirit, remind every true preacher of the gospel about this coming events, and help us to prepare well, in Jesus’ name.
3. Pray for the light of Christ’s gospel to beam through the length and breadth of our nation, in Jesus’ name.
