FEELING BLESSED?

"The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.” - Genesis 12: 1-2


We’ve all seen the Facebook and Instagram posts celebrating the exciting new car, job, or recent weekend trip. Don’t forget to add the #blessed humility-check before you click post. After all, you wouldn’t want to sound like you’re bragging, right? We’ve all been guilty of the ‘humble brag’ in one way or another. Today, social media has made it almost too easy to compare the successes of others and ‘humble brag’ about the blessings in our life. In the process, we’ve lost sight of what God originally meant by the term ‘blessing.’

When we chose to follow God’s call in our lives, blessings will follow. Think about it. The ultimate calling in life is to follow Jesus. It makes us right with God. We are forgiven of all our sins and receive victory over death. The call to follow Jesus leads to an abundant and meaningful life. That leads to greater blessings.

If you’ve said “yes” to Jesus, you’ve already been blessed over and above anything you could ever deserve. But remember, God blesses us to be a blessing. Blessings aren’t to hoard, but to share.

If we’ve been forgiven much by God, we need to generously forgive others. If we’ve been given much, we need to give generously to others in need. The next time you’re feeling #blessed, ask God how can you use that particular blessing to become a blessing to others.
