C.A.C SUNDAY SCHOOL MANUAL For JUNE 17, 2018. LESSON ELEVEN : Topic- JESUS' ATONING LOVE Part 2

--> Note :- Are you born again? You are never going to win the battle against the devil if you are not born again. I plead with you to give your life to Jesus today because the longer you stay in sin and remain unsaved, the more hardened your nature becomes against the purpose and the way God wants you to be for His purpose. To give your life to Jesus now, say this prayer: “Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus. I know that I am a sinner and I cannot save myself but Jesus died for me and shed His blood that I might be saved. Today, I accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Jesus, I ask You to come into my heart, be my Lord, wash me with Your blood and make me whole. I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Lord. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.” I congratulate you and welcome you to the family of God if you have sincerely said that prayer. Now you are fit to discover, know and walk in your destiny. LESSON ELEVEN

JESUS' ATONING LOVE
Part 2

Jun. 17 | II. DIDN'T AVERT HIS DEATH (Matthew 27:32-66)
As much as possible, men want to avert accident, sickness, dismissal from work, failure in business and ultimately, death. Death is the end of life. Everyone living knows he/she would die one day, but is not a thing prayed for, and so anyone wants to try hard to treat any case of illness, or diseases at all cost, to see if death could be postponed. Jesus remains the only person who knew death was coming and was ready for it. He carried His cross for the love of humanity.

A.   ENDURED CRUCIFIXION CONSCIOUSLY (vv. 27-49)
Now as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. Him they compelled to bear His cross (v. 32).
i.    v. 32: The sour wine mingled with gall for Jesus to drink on the cross was aimed at dulling His pain and consciousness. Why would Jesus reject such a drink at this crucial hour?
ii.    Jesus wanted to drink the cup of suffering that would put to death the spiritual and eternal death that we would have borne in hell, fully aware of all that were happening around Him (cf. Psa. 69:21).
iii.    How would the Saviour be able to bear our burdens and pains, if He did not pass through the pains consciousness, in His experience on the cross.
iv.    This is a serious case against the ignoramuses who claim that Jesus was exchanged with another person before He could be crucified, or that the Messiah in Him left, the moment He went on the Cross.
v.    vv.  45-46: Evidently, He consciously went through 3 hours of the indescribably excruciating divine abandonment that had never happened to Jesus before. This is evidence in how He cried, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" that is, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" (v. 46).
vi.    v. 50: Crying out again with a loud voice, He consciously surrendered His life, so that He would take it back at the appointed time. The fact of His loud cry signified that He had enough strength to rescue Himself from the hands of His captors, if He had wanted to.
vii.    The sorrow and pain that attended our Lord's humiliation was unprecedented in the world history, yet He bore it, till it was time in God's plan. It is painful to love, especially the unloving; yet we must love according to God's will. Hope you are not tired of loving your nagging wife/husband. We must learn to endure one another as no one is complete in himself (Jn. 15:30; Eph. 5:25).

B.    EVENTUALLY LAID DOWN HIS LIFE (vv. 50-66)
And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit (v. 50).
i.    v. 50: There are three that bear witness in the earth (1 Jn. 5:8). They had drained the water and the blood in Jesus' body, but they couldn't take His spirit from Him, until He voluntary surrendered it. He is the only one who ever did this. No other person gives up the ghost. Our lives are taken away from us.
ii.    Contrary to the Jews' belief that they killed Jesus, He willingly delivered His life into His father's hands. He is both the High Priest, the sacrifice for us all, and the Receiver of the sacrifice (Heb. 10:1-12). Hallelujah!
iii.    He came to bridge the gap between the Jews and the Gentiles. His death signals a new and living way to God (Heb. 10:19,20). What a friend we have in Jesus (CACGHB568)!
iv.    vv. 52-54: Our Lord's concern was not only for the living. He also died to raise those saints from the graves. Those saints who had been held in hades since time immemorial.
v.    The earth shook as it received the blood of the Saviour that speaks better things (salvation and redemption) than the blood of Abel.
vi.    Jesus accomplished and concluded His earthly ministry on the cross (Jn. 19:30). He ran and finished strongly after the time of suffering, torture, e.t.c, was over. You are expected to be able to do something to help others understand and experience the love of Christ (1 Jn. 3:16).

LESSON DERIVED
1.    It takes endurance to pass through the dark tunnel of life's challenges for there is light at the other end. Jesus' suffering led to glory.
2.   Sacrificial love involves giving your own will for God's and others'. Jesus died to fulfill His Father's will and save humanity.

QUESTIONS
1.    Explain the rational behind God's putting His eyes off His only Son in times of difficulty, on the cross.
2.    For a just man, no one would want to die. Why would Jesus die for sinners?

LIFE APPLICATION
One day, a state governor was visiting a war-torn area of his state. As usual, the entourage included among many, the protocol officers, officials of department of state service, mobile policeman, health workers and the Aide-de-camp to the governor. The governor was in the middle of his speech when there was a gun shot from an unidentified place, beating the Police and D.S.S. to it, and could have gone straight to hit the governor at the forehead, as targeted, but for the Aid-de-camp, who swiftly covered the governor, taking the bullet with his own chest. The Aide-de-camp died before getting to the hospital. What other security agents could not do, was done by the Aide-de-camp who preferred to give his life a ransom for his boss'.

This is what Jesus did for man who was billed to die because of his sin. Though painful to die, the love of Jesus for humanity would not allow Him to plead, nor fight for His freedom. He preferred to die than for us to go to hell. Imagine what compensation the governor and the government would pay to the family of the deceased because of the heroic safe of the governor's life. If Jesus' love prompted Him to do this for you, then you ought to think of what to give back to Him and members of His family still at large. May His death not be in vain in our lives. Amen.

CONCLUSION
Thank God for this wonderful lesson He has shared with us again. If a word should be enough for the wise, then this is the time to take appropriate steps to draw closer to the One who has done us this good. Our appreciation steps to draw closer to the One who has done us this good. Our appreciation of WHT the Saviour did for us, should include total submission to all that our lives consist. We must wake from our slumbers so as to look for the prospective/potential family members of Jesus who are still out there, living carelessly and aimlessly. That is when He, who died for us would be happy with us. May we not continue to be ingrates, in Jesus name.
