Topic: IN WHOSE STRENGTH?
Read: Judges 7:1-7
MEMORISE: _And the Lord said to Gideon, "The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel claim glory for itself against Me, saying, 'My own hand has saved me._ *(Judges 7:2)*
EXPOSITION
Judges 6 accounts that due to the disobedience of the people of Israel, they were given into the hands of the Midianites. When the Israelites could bear it no longer, they cried to the Lord for help. In His mercy, the Lord chose Gideon to deliver them. Gideon's commission was: _Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?_ *(Judges 6:14).
What is this might that God is talking about? As revealed in *Judges 7*, it is not the strength of tens of thousands of soldiers, nor even the power of angelic beings, for the men given to Gideon were dramatically reduced from 22,000 to 10,000, and then to a paltry 300. Thus, this strength refers to Gideon's obedience as he led the 300 men against their enemies who were lying in the valley as numerous as locusts *(7:12). This is so that God alone would be glorified *(v. 2).
The might of obedience in Christian living is indeed powerful. Our obedience to God is not merely an obligation, but is the essence of our discipleship and allegiance to the One whose ways are different from ours.
You might presently be leading a very small group of God's people. You might even be pastoring a small church. It is likely you are already being discouraged by the size and commitment of the few. Just be obedient to God, and faithfully serve the few you have the privilege to lead now. It is God's desire and plan to make you truly great, soonest *(Luke 12:32)*. Do not underestimate what God can do with the little you have with you, now. Just continue in His might, the power of His Holy Spirit (Zechariah 4:6).
PRAYER POINTS
1.* My Lord, may You continue to teach me Your ways, so that I can serve You, as You will.
2.* I receive extra-ordinary grace to do whatever will bring glory and praise to Your name, oh Lord.
*3.* Pray that the power of God would help abolish child labour and abuse in the land.
