C.A.C SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON FOR JANUARY 22 & 29, 2023 : LESSON ONE, TOPIC – ENOCH AND NOAH WALKED WITH GOD

--> Note :- Are you born again? You are never going to win the battle against the devil if you are not born again. I plead with you to give your life to Jesus today because the longer you stay in sin and remain unsaved, the more hardened your nature becomes against the purpose and the way God wants you to be for His purpose. To give your life to Jesus now, say this prayer: “Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus. I know that I am a sinner and I cannot save myself but Jesus died for me and shed His blood that I might be saved. Today, I accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Jesus, I ask You to come into my heart, be my Lord, wash me with Your blood and make me whole. I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Lord. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.” I congratulate you and welcome you to the family of God if you have sincerely said that prayer. Now you are fit to discover, know and walk in your destiny. Walking with God is very important in this heavenly race. However, pleasing Him while walking with Him is more rewarding.
Enoch's walk with Him became a positive point of reference.

We thank Jehovah God for His ever- faithfulness to us throughout last
Years 2022. He is indeed loading us with everything we need for life and godliness (2 Pet. 1:2,3). In the first half of the year 2022, our Sunday school bordered on the theme, GREW IN THE GRACE AND KNOWLEDGE OF OUR LORD (2 Peter 3:18). The second half saw us discussing something similar: REVIVAL: REDISCOVERING THE PATH TO SPIRITUAL MATURITY. God ruggedly took us through biblical principles and practices that enhanced individual and corporate discipleships and revival that are sadly lacking in so many churches, today. God's name be glorified. We hope this is yielding sustainable revival already.
We have been divinely privileged to enter into this beautiful year 2023, made for our all-round blessings. As God would have it, it is most refreshing that in this first half, we would be continuing with this trend of spiritual growth/maturity. Hallelujah! The theme is SOME CHARACTERS WHO GREW IN THE LORD'S GRACE AND KNOWLEDGE. This very first lesson in the series exposes the lives of two giants of faith before the Flood - Enoch and Noah.
The Bible mentions two different Enochs in Genesis- the son of Cain (4:17), and the son of Jared (5:18). The first division of this lesson discusses how Enoch, the son of Jared walked with God. Genesis 5: 18-24 and Hebrews 11:5-6 tell us substantially what Grace did in and for Enoch. Furthermore, the life of Noah is challenging. Genesis 6-9 and Hebrews 11:7 showcase him as God-pleasing and perfect. We have a lot to learn from these two biblical figures in our pursuit of growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord.
As we venture through the first lesson in this series, in Unit One (SPIRITUAL GROWTH IN THE PATRIARCHS' LIVES), may the Word empower us to see the seeable, and hear the hearable, so that we can do the doable, to please our impartial God (cf. Gal. 6:7). Amen.

LESSON OUTLINE

B. GOD'S GRACE MAKES HIM OUTSTANDING
II. NOAH GROWS IN GRACE
A. GRACE SINGLES HIM OUT
B. GRACE UNIMAGINABLY PRESERVES HIM

LESSON EXPOSITION
I. ENOCH GROWS IN GRACE (Genesis 5:18-24; Hebrews 11:5-6; Jude
23,24)
A. GRACE AIDS HIS WALK WITH GOD (Gen. 5:18-24; Heb. 11:5-6)
By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, "and was not found, because God had taken him"; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God (Heb. 11:5).
i. Like Abel, the Bible contains very little information about Enoch; but one thing is clear: he made it to the divine Hall of Fame (Heb. 11). How did his life catch God's attention spectacularly?
ii. Gen. 5:24: Aside the natural achievements of being born into this fallen world and giving birth to others too (vv. 18-23), Enoch distinguished himself, in that, he WALKED with God. How could a mere mortal walk with the invisible God (Exod. 33:20)?
iii. The idea of WALKING with God is not a once-off thing; it is continuous. It connotes the idea of a growing relationship/ intimacy with God (cf. Col. 2:6, 7). iv. Heb. 11:5b: On Enoch's part, ...he had this testimony, that he PLEASED God. What does that mean? V. 6 answers: Faith is the key to pleasing God.
How (2 Cor. 5:6-10)?
•The saving faith (believing God is) helps us to come to God and start unending walking with Him.
• The sustaining faith, empowers one till the end in the journey of
seeking to please God alone, with the belief that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him (Heb. 11:6; cf. Col. 1:9-12).
v. Walking with God implies diligently seeking Him (Heb. 11:6c). You seek the one you love dearly. In relation to God, you desire to be with Him always (1 Chro. 28:9; Psa. 16:11).
vi. The consistency with which Enoch walked with God, for a whopping 300 years (Gen. 5:22), despite the ups and downs of life, is highly challenging.
How long can you wait on, and walk with God (cf. 2 Chro. 15:7)?
vii. That is Enoch's enviable testimony (Heb. 11:5. What is yours? What would be said of you ?
B. GOD'S GRACE MAKES HIM OUTSTANDING (Gen. 5:24; Heb. 11:5,6; Jud. 23,24)
And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him (Gen.
5:24.
i. Having pleased God in walking with, and growing in relationship with Him, God chose to take Enoch away (Gen. 5:24; Heb. 11:5). His testimony of pleasing God was so strong that God chose not to allow him see death.
ii. When a man pleases God, God does the spectacular with him. Look at how God wonderfully related with the faithful Moses (Exod. 33:7ff).
iii. Enoch must have grown to know that God handsomely rewards those who diligently seek Him (Heb. 11:6c. This informs his motivation to consistently walk with God for 300 years!
iv. His growth in God's grace and knowledge, resulted in grace exempting him from the physical death that characterised his predecessors and successors. He was so spiritually alive that he was translated into eternity, bypassing death, like Elijah (2 Kgs. 2:1,11).
v. As Enoch sought God diligently, and he found Him. God promises that (Prov. 8:17; Ter. 29:12, 13), and will never fail fulfilling it (cf. Num. 23:19).
vi. His intimate walk with God made him to see and hear deep things in the Lord's Council, so much that he was referred to as a prophet (Jud. 14,15).
The more your intimacy with God, the deeper things you know-the difference between Moses and the congregation.

LESSONS DERIVED
1. Your intimacy with God defines who you are and what you do.
2. Your growth rate in the Lord determines the dimension of blessings and accomplishments your life attracts.

WORK TO DO (10 MINUTES)
Compare Enoch's being caught up with the much-expected major worldwide event of being caught up by Christ- the Rapture (of. Rev. 4:1).
From the life of Enoch, how can we be well prepared for the Rapture?
II. NOAH GROWS IN GRACE (Genesis 6-9; Hebrews 11:7)
A. GRACE SINGLES HIM OUT (Gen. 6:1-12; Heb. 11:7)
By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world... (Heb. 11:7).
1. Gen. 6:1-12: Noah's generation was as corrupt as we have it today; a thing that pisses God off (vv. 6,11,12; cf. 2 Chro. 16:9; Prov. 15:3; 22:12; Amos
9:8; 1 Pet. 3:12), invoking unbearable divine penalties (V. 7; Rom. 6:23a).
i. v. 8: The but here is a positive deviation from the negative norm. ...Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. Why? How?
ili. v. 9: For our impartial and perfect God who neither lies nor sings praise of any man unnecessarily, to describe Noah as a just man, perfect in his generation, he must have been consistently living a God-pleasing life over the years. What about you?
iv. Over the years, he walked with God, i.e. he was in a very close relationship with the Holy God (Cf. Amos. 3:3), such that he had imbibed God's culture of holiness, hence being described as perfect.
v. All he did was motivated by godly fear (Heb. 11:7a), which is the beginning Of knowledge and wisdom (Prov. 1:7). Hence, he walked and Grew in God's wisdom, such that his life condemned the world (Heb. 11:7b). You can't be walking with God and befriend the world simultaneously (Matt. 6:24).
vi. All of this is the work of Grace upon Noah's life. You can't do without that grace.
B. GRACE UNIMAGINABLY PRESERVES HIM (Gen. 7-9; Heb. 11:7)
....prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith (Heb. 11:7b).
Heb. 11:7b: That Noah prepared an ark for the saving of his household
stems from the fact of his confidence/trust in, and obedience to God that he had developed over the years in his walk with Him (CAC GHB 809. it. The divine command to build the ark (Gen. 6:13ff) humanly sounded absurd. The prospect of rainfall and flood was strange. Only those who walk with God by faith (2 Cor. 5:7) can obey Him fully, even in the most implausible and risky situations.
iii. The flood eventually came (Gen. 7:1ff), but Noah and his household were saved by grace, through obedient faith (8:1ff). Only those who commit to walking with God in obedient faith are saved and safe.
iv. Also, grace made Noah heir of the righteousness which is according to faith (Heb. 11:7c). Genesis 9:1ff shows how God entered into an eternal covenant with him.
V. Your life can never remain the same, the moment you commit to uncompromising walk with God in obedient faith (In. 3:3; 2 Cor. 5:17,18).

LESSONS DERIVED
1. Only grace can make you God-pleasing, earthly relevant, and heaven-ready.
2. The blessings of consistent walk with God cannot be quantified. Don't miss them?

QUESTIONS
