TOPIC: WRONG EXAMPLES TO AVOID (V)
READ: 1 Corinthians 5:1-13

[1] It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.
[2] And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.
[3] For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,
[4] In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,
[5] To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
[6] Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?
[7] Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
[8] Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
[9]. I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:
[10] Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.
[11] But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.
[12] For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?
[13] But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.
MEMORISE:
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived. Neither fornicators, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites (1 Corinthians 6:9).
EXPOSITION
One of the commonest social vices is sexual immorality, that is, Reckless sexual misbehaviour with anybody and anything, even animals-bestiality. All sexual immoralities are inspired by Satan. The likes of these sins caused God perversions are himself to visit and destroy the cities of biblical Sodom and Gomorrah, with fire and brimstone. This hellish spirit once fell upon a member of the early Church in the days of Apostle Paul. He slept with his father's wife exultantly, proudly rejoicing, but he was immediately strictly rebuked and judged with expulsion so as to avoid contamination of the whole body of Christ.
The costs of wrong sexual engagements are many. It breeds eccentricity and shameful behaviours, e.g. Lamech (Gen. 4:19,23-24). It also breeds provocation, hate and genocide, e.g. the rape of Dinah and Tamar (Gen. 34:1, 2,25-31; 2 Sam. 13:8-17,28-31). It corrupts humanity and breeds generations of abnormal beings, e g. the giants (Gen. 6:1ff; 2 Sam. 17:4-10; Matt. 3:7; 12:34,39).
Added to the above are losses of dignity and respect, e g. Judah (Gen. 38:16-26), and birth-right, e.g. Reuben and Esau (Gen. 49:3,4; cf. 1 Chro. 5:1; Heb. 12:16). Murder of the innocent and curse, e.g. David versus Uriah (2 Sam. 11:14-17,24-27). It joins Christ with Belial and causes the antichrist to inhabit God's temple (1 Cor. 6:14-17). It destroys the human body and flesh (Prov. 5:1ff; cf. 1 Cor. 6:18).
Beware of sexual immorality. Run away from youthful lusts as found on our television screens, social media, soft magazines and handsets, etc. May God keep you holy and acceptable to Him to the end. Amen.
PRAYER POINT:
1. Lord, deliver me from the spirit of sexual immorality pervading this generation.
2. Lord, sanctify and deliver me from lust, in all its forms.
3. Pray that God should cause those heads of institutions, companies and other organisations who are fond of asking for sex before assisting their subordinates and others who need their help, to see the need to repent.
