Title: Jesus is Lord
( Luke 7: 18- 23) John’s disciples told him about all these things. Calling two of them, he sent them to the Lord to ask, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?” When the men came to Jesus, they said, “John the Baptist sent us to you to ask, Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else? “ At that time Jesus cures many who had diseases, sickness and evil spirits, and gave sight to many who were blind . So He replied to the messengers, “Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor. Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.”.
We understand from this scripture that John the Baptist was in prison and was hearing the stories about what Jesus was doing, healing the sick, making the blind to see etc. Even though he was the one who baptized Jesus, while Jesus was there as the Messiah, John the Baptist, began to have doubt about whom Jesus was, I believe that he was expecting Jesus to come to His rescue and bring him out of prison. He sent his disciples to go and find out from Jesus if He was the one they were expecting, or should they start looking for someone else. At this point he was in doubt. He sent his disciples to go and verify.
In this context, when John’s disciples came to ask the question to Jesus, He did not get upset , He humbly told them to go back to John and tell him all the things He was doing, what they have seen and heard are enough to answer their questions. Jesus is a wonderful God, another person would have been upset and ask what kind of foolish question was John asking. But Jesus couldn’t give horrific answers but sent His word to them by saying just go back and tell John all these you have seen. Jesus knew He was accomplishing His messianic mission, the evidence was clear.
Jesus understood that John was in doubt that was why He told them to go and tell John what they have seen and heard. He understands we are humans, whenever He is dealing with us He always comes down to our level so that we can have a better connection with Him. He does not treat us as we deserve but according to His loving kindness. All the things He told John’s disciples were all the evidence that John needed .
Do you have questions about whom Jesus is? Or about what He expects from you? Accept those doubts today and go to Him in prayers. (Jeremiah 33:3) “Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you the great and hidden things that you have not known “.
Instead of inquiring from people, pray and read your Bible and God will give you understanding of His word. These physical proofs helped John to understand Jesus, and it will help us to understand Him better in Jesus name.
Prayers: Jesus please help us to understand your power, help us to fulfill our purpose in Life in Jesus. Remove every doubting spirit from us in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
