MEMORY VERSE: “For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.” – Ephesians 6:20
The MESSAGE:
Representing Christ today requires some basic skills. Let us examine these skills as well as the essential qualities that an effective ambassador of Christ Jesus should have. These two, the skills and the qualities or traits are necessary for achieving success in the tasks involved in being an ambassador of Christ. The first skill an ambassador needs is the basic knowledge necessary for his task. He or she must have an accurately informed mind. He must know God’s word and the central message of God’s kingdom, which he is representing. In addition to having an accurately informed mind, the knowledge of an ambassador of Christ must be tempered with the kind of wisdom that makes his message clear and persuasive. Thirdly, an ambassador of Christ should have a good character. His character can make or break his mission. Knowledge and wisdom are packaged in a person, so to speak. If that person does not embody the virtues of the kingdom he serves, he will undermine his message and handicap his efforts. These three skills — knowledge, an accurately informed mind; wisdom, an artful method; and character, an attractive manner — play a part in every effective involvement with a nonbeliever.
In addition to the foregoing skills, an ambassador should have the following qualities. He or she should be ready. An ambassador should be alert for chances to represent Christ and will not back away from a challenge or an opportunity. He or she should be patient. An ambassador should not quarrel, but will listen in order to understand, then with gentleness will seek to respectfully engage those who disagree. He or she should be reasonable. An ambassador has informed convictions (not just feelings), gives reasons, asks questions, aggressively seeks answers, and will not be stumped by the same challenge twice. He or she should be tactical. An ambassador adapts to each unique person and situation, manoeuvring with wisdom to challenge bad thinking, presenting the truth in an understandable and compelling way. He or she should be clear. An ambassador should be careful with language and will not rely on Christian lingo nor gain unfair advantage by resorting to empty rhetoric.
In addition, he or she should be fair. An ambassador is sympathetic and understanding toward others and will acknowledge the merits of contrary views. He or she should be honest. An ambassador should be careful with the facts and should not misrepresent another’s view, overstate his own case or understate the demands of the gospel. He or she should be humble. An ambassador is provisional in his claims, knowing that his understanding of truth is fallible. He will not press a point beyond what his evidence allows. He or she should be attractive, act with grace, kindness, and good manners. He or she should not dishonour Christ in his conduct. Finally, he or she should be dependent. An ambassador knows that effectiveness requires joining his best efforts with God’s power.
Beloved, I encourage you to pray for God’s grace and enabling, and then acquire the foregoing skills and traits. With the help of the Holy Spirit, you will succeed in your God-given role and position as Christ’s ambassador, in Jesus’ mighty name.

4 My Father, teach me to join my efforts with Yours and not lean only on my understanding, in the name of Jesus.
5 Anointing to succeed as Christ’s ambassador, fall upon me, in the name of Jesus.
6 Father, give me more grace and enabling to represent You and Your kingdom faithfully, in the name of Jesus.
7 I shall not be tired or discouraged in witnessing for Christ, in the name of Jesus.
