Anglican Church Of Nigeria Weekly Sunday School/ Bible Studies Manual For September 22, 2019 : TOPIC - Some Biblical Examples of Ungodliness 2:

--> Note :- Are you born again? You are never going to win the battle against the devil if you are not born again. I plead with you to give your life to Jesus today because the longer you stay in sin and remain unsaved, the more hardened your nature becomes against the purpose and the way God wants you to be for His purpose. To give your life to Jesus now, say this prayer: “Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus. I know that I am a sinner and I cannot save myself but Jesus died for me and shed His blood that I might be saved. Today, I accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Jesus, I ask You to come into my heart, be my Lord, wash me with Your blood and make me whole. I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Lord. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.” I congratulate you and welcome you to the family of God if you have sincerely said that prayer. Now you are fit to discover, know and walk in your destiny. Study 2/26 September 22 Trinity 14

SUB-THEME/2 : GODLY LEADERSHIP .

TOPIC : Some Biblical Examples of Ungodliness 2:

Saul and Rehoboam.

TEXT : 1 Sam. 13: 6-14; 1 Kings 14: 21-29 .
AIMS :
i. To identify what made the two kings ungodly leaders ;
ii. To discover the consequences of their ungodliness ;
iii. To learn God’s stand against ungodliness from the consequences the two
kings suffered.

INTRODUCTION :

The Bible makes it clear that it is an abominable and improper for kings to be
wicked ( Prov. 16: 12; Job 34:17-19 ); and that it is unacceptable for a king in
Israel to disobey God’s command. Saul, the first king of Israel, had several
admirable qualities that made him fit to be king of Israel but he lost the throne
to David because of disobedience. Likewise Rehoboam, the son and successor
to Solomon became the last king of united Israel as a result of his personal

flaws. The two kings did enough to provoke God’s wrath and their
dethronement.

STUDY GUIDE

1. a) Point out the particular wrong actions of the two kings in 1 Sam. 13:
6-14; 1 Kings 14:21-29 and state why those actions were ungodly? 2
Chron. 12:1, 14 .
b) What other ungodly actions were carried out by them?
(i) 1 Sam. 15: 1-3, 13-19; 18: 6-11; 22: 13-18; 28: 8-1 2;
(ii) 1 Kings 12: 6, 15-16, 18, 21; 2 Chr. 12: 1.
2. What were the consequences of those actions?
(i) 1 Sam. 13:13-14; 15:22-23, 28; 31:1-5; 2 Sam. 21:1-2 .
(ii) 2 Chr. 12:1-2, 5, 9-10.
3. In the light of the above, what lesson is there for today’s leaders, especially
in the Church? Job 34:19; 24: 1 .

CONCLUSION : It is an abomination for Kings to be wicked, and not to be
found to do right as leaders is a great dishonour. Every true leader should
always keep in mind that at the appropriate time, there will be appropriate and
divine recompense. True repentance may delay or defer God’s wrath; but it is
best to walk honorably and godly.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT : The high and low face God’s wrath when they sin.

MEMORY VERSE : Job 18:17 .
