SUB-THEME : GODLY LEADERSHIP .
TOPIC : Some Bible Examples of Ungodliness in Leadership 1:
Aaron and Eli.
MEMORY VERSE : 1Timothy 3:12 .
TEXT : Ex. 28: 1-2; 32: 1-7; 1 Sam. 1: 3 & 2: 12-17, 27-2 9.
AIMS : To
i. Learn from the call and performance of Aaron and Eli in priesthood ;
ii. highlight their challenges and the causes;
iii. learn from the consequence of ungodly actions in the priest’s office .
INTRODUCTION :
Aaron was called by God as the first high priest of Israel. He was ordained the
same day with his sons Nadab, Abihu, Elieazar and Ithamar as priests. Soon
after their ordination, Nadab and Abihu offered a strange fire and got killed by
God for doing so. Years later, Eli emerged from the lineage of Ithamar as priest.
How did they fare? Why did they fail and what was the result? These we will
find out in this study.
STUDY GUIDE
1. a) How would you describe the call of Aaron and Eli and its essence to the
priesthood? Heb. 5:1-4; Exod.28:1-2 .
b) How did they perform in their offices? Ex. 32: 1-6; 1 Sam. 1:3 & 2:12-17,
27-29 .
c) How well did their children portray the office of the priest? Lev. 10:1; 1
Sam. 2:12-17, 22-25 .

2. a) What resulted from the ungodly acts of these priests and their children?
Lev.10:1-2; 1 Sam. 2:27-36; 3:14; 4:11-2 2.
b) How would God have us respond to the consequences of these Priests
ungodly conducts? Why? Acts 17:30; 1 Pet.4:17-19 .
(c) What safeguards can the Church put in place to help keep the
sanctity of its leadership in the face of the ever present tendency to make
mistakes, and in view of the vulnerable nature of man? See 1 Tim. 3:5,
10-13; Exod.18:21 .
CONCLUSION
God honours those who honour Him and if anyone by virtue of his office or
calling despises God, the Lord will act at His appointed time. Therefore, let us
rise up today to perform our responsibility to please God .
FOOD FOR THOUGHT : There is no respect of persons with God; He hires and
fires.
