C.A.C SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON For August 25th, 2019, That The Scripture Must be Fulfilled, UNIT I: THE SCRIPTURE ARE GIVEN. TOPIC - THE MESSIAH'S LIFE AND DEATH (Isaiah 53:1-11)

--> Note :- Are you born again? You are never going to win the battle against the devil if you are not born again. I plead with you to give your life to Jesus today because the longer you stay in sin and remain unsaved, the more hardened your nature becomes against the purpose and the way God wants you to be for His purpose. To give your life to Jesus now, say this prayer: “Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus. I know that I am a sinner and I cannot save myself but Jesus died for me and shed His blood that I might be saved. Today, I accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Jesus, I ask You to come into my heart, be my Lord, wash me with Your blood and make me whole. I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Lord. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.” I congratulate you and welcome you to the family of God if you have sincerely said that prayer. Now you are fit to discover, know and walk in your destiny. C.A.C SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON.

That The Scripture Must be Fulfilled.

UNIT I: THE SCRIPTURE ARE GIVEN.

August 25th, 2019.

II. THE MESSIAH'S LIFE AND DEATH (Isaiah 53:1-11)

Those who are made kings on earth over their people have their characteristics suitable for their office, even though many of them do not live to the morality and decency their offices demand. Jesus is a different and superior King who, though did not come amidst pomp and pageantry like others, chose to align Himself with the burden of His people. That the scriptures must be fulfilled. He died for all.

A. WILL LIVE A SUFFERING SERVANT (vv. 1-7)
He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its sharers is silent, so He opened not His mouth (v. 7)
i. vv. 1-3: The Messiah, Saviour of the sinner would not be so accepted because of His humble and sorrowful appearance. He was expected to come amidst pomp and pageantry, yet, He would grow up as a plant, silently and humbly (cf. Mk. 9:12). Carnal hearts would see no reason to desire their Saviour.
ii. v. 5: But He was wounded for our transgressions. The Messiah would bear the iniquity of all (cf. Matt. 8:17; 1 Pet. 2:24). Christ would have both bodily and mental sorrow (Psa. 22:16) and be judged as though punished for His Own sin. This He would endure to reconcile man to God, immediately and ultimately.

iii. v. 6: And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. In ourselves, we are scattered. In Christ, we are gathered. Naturally, we drift to destruction (Psa. 119:176; 1 Pet. 2:25). Only in Christ are we to find our way to life, because He had put the punishment due to all, upon Himself (1 Pet. 3:18) --- our ransom.
iv. v. 7: The Messiah would be oppressed and ... afflicted, yet He would not open His mouth. It would be as serious as He, being like a lamb let to the slaughter and a sheep before its shearer... He would surprisingly maintain silence, deliberately choosing not to open His mouth so that He would perfect our redemption (cf. Matt. 26:63; 27:14; Act. 8:32).

v. Christ is God's Lamb in obedience and humility, who is suffering for sinners, remained silent as He was being beaten and battered. We must stop complaining when we pass through the inevitable of life. If our own scriptures must be fulfilled, we must endure and persevere to the end.

B. WILL DIE BUT RESURRECT (vv. 8:11)
He was taken from prison and from judgment, and who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgressions of My people He was stricken (v. 8).
i. v. 8: The Messiah, for our sake, would be cut off from the land of the living (gruesomely killed and crucified), and sent to the grave, despite not being a criminal (cf. Jn. 19:17-42).
ii. v. 9: ... they made His grave with the wicked. God would deliberately deliver/allow the Messiah (His Son) into the hands of devil-instigated men to strike Him for our sake (cf. v. 8b).
iii. Despite that He had done no violence, nor was any deceit in His mouth, ... it pleased the Lord to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief (cf. Matt. 27:38).
iv. v. 10: He shall prolong His days. Prolonging His days would include that even after they think they would have murdered Him. He would still come back to life (resurrect) so that the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand. This is because God would not abandon His soul in hell (Psa. 16:10; 86:13).
v. v. 11: He shall see the labour of His soul, and be satisfied... The ultimate ransom that the Messiah would not be in vain. The labour, pain, grief, sorrow of His soul (the hellish situations He would be subjected to) would yielded positive result of bringing many sons/daughters to God (cf. Heb. 2:10).
vi. Labour hour may be hard and unpleasant, the joy of sorrow is enormous when one sees the bountiful harvest. Christ's suffering is never in vain for God's great plan for humanity prospered in His hands. You are part of His fruits, so do not decay, or remain invalid! (Matt. 28:19,20).

LESSON DERIVED
1. We are not left in the dark as to what the life and death of the Messiah would be. Jesus has come to meet that exact specification.
2. God specified that the Messiah would suffer and die. The Jews obviously expected otherwise, but Jesus came as the suffering servant.

QUESTIONS
1. In what manner did the Scriptures predict that the Messiah would come, live and die?
2. Show that Jesus met the exact specifications about the coming, life and death of the Messiah.

* He would live as a suffering servant who would be unjustly treated and struck down by a rebellious people (cf. 2:23).
* He would be killed like a criminal, but buried among the rich.

ix. He was sold off and crucified by His own people (Matt. 27; Lk. 23:26ff; Jn. 19:17ff).

LIFE APPLICATION
Life is not always a bed of roses. That is why it takes much wood to consume before a yam is roasted. The story of our Saviour is likened to the first born son of a couple who got admission into the university. Though his parents were rich, they deliberately left the boy to his fate, in order to experience life. Therefore, he suffered, doing menial jobs to pay his fee at school. There were days he had to suffer in the hands of wicked lecturers who dealt with him because he could not buy handouts, nor 'roger' them for anything. Therefore, this boy did all he could to make his dream come true as a Mechanical engineer. On this day of graduation, he invited the parents, relatives and well-wishers to rejoice with him. His own joy knew no bound, forgetting all his hard experiences. His success became an eye opener to many in the family and community who thought they couldn't be educated for lack of sponsor. The boy realized that, that was the road he had to pass to realise his dream in life, and he faced it. Jesus Christ is our Saviour who went through thick and thin to give humanity salvation. He is happy today, seeing His offspring in you and the vast population of the world. Believers must strive to undergo all it takes to follow their Saviour to the end.

CONCLUSION
God must be praised for increasing our faith in His Word by this lesson Having learnt about the sufferings, rejection and humiliation that Christ endured on the road to the fulfillment of His destinies, which is primarily delivering humanity from Satan, sin, death and hell, believers must see challenges of life as part of the huddles to cross to Canaan. Let us keep waiting for His second coming.
