LET THE WORLD SEE YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS
READ: Isaiah 62:1-3
MEMORISE: Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16).
EXPOSITION
The disciples of Jesus had been physically separated from their Master for a long time. Yet, those who did not know them identified them as Christ-like (Acts 11:26). God’s purpose of calling and saving us is to radiate His light to the world.
Jesus came to give light to the dark world (Isa. 9:2; Matt. 4:16). Since Jesus came into our lives, we are no longer what we used to be (2 Cor. 5:17), just as a bachelor’s life changes as soon as the new wife gets home. Old friends may have to be distanced, girl friends have no more access, and community knows something has happened to ‘this man’.
Believers, who have been called into the saving grace of God, through Jesus, are expected to live new ways of life in consonance with the righteousness and holiness of God (Rom. 8:29). This is far from outward show of piety (1 Pet. 3:3-5). That is why God is more concerned about our hearts.
If the heart is transformed, the entire person would change, and the effect is visible to all. Believers are light put on the table to give light to the surroundings (Matt. 5:16).
Christianity is practical, visible, and should be felt by people around us. Daniel, the three Hebrews, and Joseph are shining examples to us, today. Who are you in your church, community, office, etc? Are the sheep not mixed with the goats? Let us get to that point that as Christians we can say, “If others will, I will not.”
However, we must beware of hypocrisy in living the life of righteousness (Matt. 5:20). Since our righteousness is useless, we must be ready to love like He lived while He was on earth (Rom. 10:4). Arise and shine!
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord Jesus, make me Your light to my world.
2. Lord, help me that my family would be an outshining of Your holiness and righteousness in this crooked generation.
3. Pray seriously against the modern satanic trend called ‘Prosperity gospel’ ravaging churches and shutting the mouths of ministers from preaching messages of holiness/righteousness.
EXTRA READING FOR TODAY: I Chronicles 10:12 – 12:13; John 18:34 – 19:15.
