Anglican Church Of Nigeria Weekly Sunday School/ Bible Studies Manual For June 9, 2019 : Topic - Characteristics of godly Leadership 5: Purpose and Direction

--> Note :- Are you born again? You are never going to win the battle against the devil if you are not born again. I plead with you to give your life to Jesus today because the longer you stay in sin and remain unsaved, the more hardened your nature becomes against the purpose and the way God wants you to be for His purpose. To give your life to Jesus now, say this prayer: “Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus. I know that I am a sinner and I cannot save myself but Jesus died for me and shed His blood that I might be saved. Today, I accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Jesus, I ask You to come into my heart, be my Lord, wash me with Your blood and make me whole. I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Lord. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.” I congratulate you and welcome you to the family of God if you have sincerely said that prayer. Now you are fit to discover, know and walk in your destiny. Study 2/11 June 9 Pentecost Sunday

SUB THEME: GODLY LEADERSHIP

TOPIC: Characteristics of godly Leadership 5: Purpose and Direction

MEMORY VERSE: 1 Cor. 9:26.

TEXTS: John 4:31-34; Acts 26:15-18; Col.1:27-29.

AIMS: To i. discover what it means to have purpose and direction as leaders; ii. realise why to have purpose and direction is important in the Church; iii. find out how leaders in the Church can become purposed and have direction.

INTRODUCTION: Purpose deals with why we want to do a thing while Direction relates to how we generally go about it or wish to go about it. Purpose determines direction. Purpose and direction in godly leadership have to do with knowing where one is headed as a leader and why. (Nehemiah 2:17), Christ (John 4:31-34), Paul Church of Nigeria 2019 Bible Study (Col.1:27-29), etc., are a few examples of godly leaders with purpose and direction in the scriptures. May this study inspire us to be leaders with purpose and direction!

STUDY GUIDE

1. What does it mean for leaders to have ‘purpose’ and ‘direction’? Luke 9:51; John 4:31-34; Phil.1:21-24.

2. Why is it important for leaders to have purpose and direction? John 4:31-34 (cf. John 17:4; 19:30); Acts 26:15-19 (cf. Col.1:27-29; 2 Tim. 4:6-8).

3. What are some possible consequences of leaders not having purpose and direction? 1 Kings 20:39-40; 1 Cor.9:15-27; Prov.29:18.

4. How may both Christians and churches become purposed and direction? Acts 9:1-6; Prov.27:17; John 21:3, 15-18; Titus 1:5; Matt.28:18.

CONCLUSION: Leadership envisions members and congregations. Thus a visionless leader does not inspire his congregation but rather leaves them clueless with the attendant result of wandering, bickering, and destroying one another. Such scarcely fulfill the divine mandate. Seek the Lord to either envision or sharpen your vision as a leader.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Leaders without purpose and direction tend to be pushed in directions that lead to nowhere. MEMORY VERSE: 1 Cor. 9:26.
