TOPIC - THE WAY OUT IS PRAYER
READ: I TIMOTHY 2:1-8 (NKJV)
1. Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,
2. for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.
2. for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.
3. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
4. who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
5. For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,
6. who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time,
7. for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle—I am speaking the truth in Christ and not lying— a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
8. I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting;
THE MESSAGE:
It is indeed a tedious task to pray for all men, especially when you feel the injustices, partialities, denials of rights and privileges, unpaid salaries, the high level of impunity, political marginalization, failed promises, outright abuse of authority, corruption and falsehood, around us. Loving men equally, thinking of men equally and regarding them equally become too difficult to comprehend. But while addressing Timothy, his spiritual son, St. Paul admonished, "Therefore, I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men" (verses 1-2).
It is our collective duty to uphold Kings, Presidents of Nations, State Executive Governors, Bishops, Local Government Chairmen, States Houses of Assembly members, etc., in prayers, whether we like them or not, whether they are of the same religion or not and whether their policies are in tandem with the welfare of the people or not. In short, we are not given any opportunity to vary our prayers for them.
You are not praying for them because they are doing well, rather you are mandated to pray for them so that they can do well so that peace will reign among us and in our environment, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness (verse 2).
PRAYER: Release the spirit of prayer upon Your Church, Oh God.
