The bible says, “It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.”
The leader must schedule his rest very carefully. The Sabbath is not about rest from work alone, but rest from distractions. Rest and refreshing are side benefits not the purpose of the Sabbath. The leader must get this clear. The Sabbath is to be at rest from every other legitimate issue to focus on God for worship. Out of this comes your authenticity in spiritual leadership. It is not a day to stay home and watch TV, but a day to stay off work to stay on God.
The leaders’ true rest and refreshing comes from God. Rest here doesn’t primarily mean sleep and idling away your time. Spiritual work demands spiritual rest and refreshing. If you have preached the gospel for the past 5 days travelling great distances and on the sixth day you need some rest, you need to rest with spiritual activities like praying in the Holy Ghost and worship. That wayyour spirit will be re-energized to bounce back with vigour.
Every spiritual leader needs to live life with the principle of One. This principle requires that you spend:
•One hour in the presence of God every day
•One day in the presence of God every week i.e. at least 3 uninterrupted hours alone with God.
•One weekend closeting yourself with God every month i.e. from Friday to Sunday when you go to church.
PRAYER: Lord, I pray for peace, rest, quietness and still waters around me. I receive rest all around me in Jesus’ name. Amen!
