February 12, 2019 Spirit Meat Daily Devotional : Topic - EXPOSING THE GOAT NATURE IN CHURCH (2) [HEBREWS 10:23-25, MATTHEW 12:22-30]

Today, we start an exposition on characteristics that goats exhibit in church:
1. Goats don't stay in church: Goats are unsteady. They attend up to 52 churches in a year. Jesus is their pastor, The Holy Ghost is their guide, and they claim the Body of Christ is their church. They never commit to any place to settle down to build ties and grow. They are often unaccountable to any spiritual authority. Goats forget that you cannot be a member of the Body of Christ without being a member in a local church. They know what obtains in every church in their town because they have sampled all and are still sampling others. 

2. Goats are very suspicious: The suspicious nature of goats often explains their inability to be planted in a church and this stunts their flourishing. Goats are not only unable to trust others, they also cannot trust themselves to live a life expected of a true sheep. Thus, they wander around, sniffing everyone they come in contact with in suspicion. On the contrary,true sheep know the voice of the Chief shepherd and once they hear His voice through their shepherd, they are trusting. Sheep are willing to believe the vision of God for their lives and make the required sacrifice to live up to this Christ-like ideal. They trust others also, which is why they are able to build with the shepherd and not scatter. 
Sometimes, the hurt that some sheep have experienced in previous churches made them very suspicious of churches and church leadership. But you must not let shepherds and churches rob you of your purpose.

PRAYER: Lord, heal me from every hurt I’ve experienced in past churches. Lead me to my shepherd and my purpose in Jesus’ name. Amen.
