C.A.C SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON. UNIT III: MAN'S RESPONSE TO GOD'S LOVE IN THE NEW TESTAMENT FOR November 18, 2018, LESSON NINE: TOOIC - JESUS TEACHES HOW TO LOVE

--> Note :- Are you born again? You are never going to win the battle against the devil if you are not born again. I plead with you to give your life to Jesus today because the longer you stay in sin and remain unsaved, the more hardened your nature becomes against the purpose and the way God wants you to be for His purpose. To give your life to Jesus now, say this prayer: “Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus. I know that I am a sinner and I cannot save myself but Jesus died for me and shed His blood that I might be saved. Today, I accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Jesus, I ask You to come into my heart, be my Lord, wash me with Your blood and make me whole. I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Lord. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.” I congratulate you and welcome you to the family of God if you have sincerely said that prayer. Now you are fit to discover, know and walk in your destiny. LESSON NINE:
JESUS TEACHES HOW TO LOVE

PART II.
PARABLES (Luke 10:25-37; 16:19-31)
A good parable will make you visualise the meaning of the hidden subject to understand it better because of the connection to the things you already know about and understand. Jesus uses parable for more understanding of what He teaches ---- things of the Kingdom (Lk. 8:9.10). We should all realise that the teachings of Jesus are more important than our own idea.

A.    THE GOOD SAMARITAN (10:25-37)
But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbour?" (v. 29)
i.     v. 29: Having established the fact of the greatest divine command with this lawyer (vv. 25-28), the latter who wanted to justify (his lack of love for some kinds of people), asked Jesus, which neighbour? (v. 29; TLB)
ii.    v. 30: Jesus replied with appropriate and timely parable of the Good Samaritan to validate His teaching to this man.
iii.   Jesus knew that Jews and Samaritans had been sworn enemies (cf. Jn. 4:9). A. Parable such as this would teach God's love to understandably.
iv.   vv. 30-35: The lawyer would have wondered why a priest and a levite (both Jews) would have been so callous to their own brother, and why it would be a Samaritan that would help the wounded man. The point is, you can only shown true love to your neighbour when God's love reside in your heart (1 Jn. 4:7ff).
v.   vv. 36,37: The Samaritan showed true love ---- pitied the robbed man, gave freely his time, and money to help the man who wasn't only a stranger, but also an enemy. That is the teaching of Jesus that we should extend our love and concerns to all persons everywhere, even our enemies (cf. Matt. 5:43ff).
vi.   v. 37b: In this parable, Jesus challenges us to, Go and do likewise (cf. 15:10-14).
vii.  Our love for God is shown when we care for people who are in need of job, feeding, shelter, treatment, the less privileged, etc. Get down into your environment, do something about the love of God you claimed to have in the lives of these ones. We heard it all in the parable of Jesus Christ.

B.   THE RICH MAN AND LAZARUS (16:19-31)
But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores (vv. 20-21).
i.   vv. 19-21: But... (v. 20a) shows a sharp contrast between the one who fared sumptuously every day (v. 19) and the other desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table (v. 21).
ii.  Fingers are not equal. In your beautiful world, there are many people who need your love and care. Jesus teaches us to love and care for one another by teaching us the Great Commandment (Matt. 25:40; Mk. 12:31; 1 Jn. 4:11; 1 Pet. 4:8).
iii.  vv. 20,21: However, the rich man in this parable only uses his wealth selfishly in extravagance. He never cares for others, even the poor Lazarus, because he had no love of God in him (1 Jn. 4:7-8). God doesn't take it lightly with such greedy, selfish and loveless people (Prov. 14:31; 17:5;21:13; Lk. 12:1ff)
iv.  vv. 22:-31: Death is inevitable for both the loving and the loveless (v. 22)! The merciful would obtain mercy (Matt. 5:7), while the loveless would endlessly ask for mercy in futility (vv. 23ff; cf. Prov. 21:13).
v.   Show God's love now so that LOVE (Jesus Christ) would shine the smiling, blissful light of His countenance on you, immediately and ultimately.
vi.  The meaning of love is not in words but in deeds, love is not known, until it is shown. Every time you are operating faith on the ground of personal interest without the well-being of others in view, it will not work. Because... Faith... worketh by love (Gal. 5:6KJV).

LESSON DERIVED
God's love in us demands that we extend it to all persons everywhere, as our neighbours, across all barriers ---- status, race, colour, religion, etc.
2.  The only "requirement" to love is your willingness to love, to learn to love and to practise love in truth, in all situations of your life.

QUESTIONS.
1.   Our world has twisted the meaning of true love, but Jesus' Word remains the only steadily true source of knowledge on how to love. Discuss.
2.   Compare and contrast the Good Samaritan and the Rich man in the two different parables discussed in the lesson, in relation to love in action.

SUGGESTED ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS
ANSWER TO QUESTION 1
i.   The kind of love we express today doesn't depend on the Word of God; it's from the pit of hell. The devil has twisted the real meaning of love to lust and hated in the heart of many, including Christians.
ii.  Love expressed among our youth today, is love-in-lust, not live-in-God. That was why most of them end up miserably.
iii. Sin has taken control of hearts and the love of many has grown cold (Matt. 24:12).
iv.  The Word of God is infallible, educating, and constant. It touches every aspect of lives. It was spoken directly from the mouth of the Lord. Definitely, it remains the source of true knowledge to any matters around us.
v.  Any love that is never rooted in God's Word, is from the devil.

ANSWER TO QUESTION 2.
Good Samaritan:
1.  Though there was religions dichotomy between the Jews and Samaritans, yet to him, it counts not. He showed love to that dying Jew.
2.  He has the spirit of hospitality.
3.  He cares.
4.  He consciously offered his time, trip, materials (oil, bondage, wine and donkey) and money.
5.  He was accommodated and not irritated.
6.  He was compassionate
7.  All these were possible when your heart is filled with the love of God.

The Rich man:
1.   He was merciless.
2.   Self-centered.
3.   Unwise (because he lacked the wise One---God).
4.   Wicked
5.   Full of hatred
6.   Futureless (he never thinks of when to die and what will happen after death).
7.   All these were possible because he lacked the God of love.

LIFE APPLICATION
There was a man who had three intimate friends named Faith, Hope and Love. One day, he called to tell them that he would be traveling to another country, promising to return one day. After so many years, he sent to them, that soon, he would be visiting them. When it was time, he came like a beggar in tattered attire, like a mad man. He went to the house of Faith. Faith sent him away saying don't trouble me; I'm waiting for a special friend. He left Faith for Hope. Hope did not grant him audience. He went to the house of love. Love welcomed, cleansed, fed and  changed his clothing. After his clothes were changed, love realises it was their friend. Faith and Hope wept bitterly when they realized it was their friend. And not the man said these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love (1 Cor. 13:13).

CONCLUSION
Dear friend, enlarge your heart with the love of God, when your heart is large and full with the love of God, then your love for man would be possible and easy to carry out. It is natural to hate, but it is supernatural to love. To be supernatural means, to be in the nature of God, and to be natural is, to follow worldly nature. Desire and pray for the supernatural that swallows the natural, in order to do the things of the spirit. The best of God is reserved for those who loved Him and their fellow men.
