October 2, 2018 Turning Point Today Devotional : Topic - DESPISE NOT AN IDEA
TUESDAY, 2ND OCTOBER, 2018.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: “A THING CONTAINS MORE THAN IT FIRST APPEARED”
ANCHOR TEXT: “But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong”
1 Corinthians 1:27.
hen a person introduces an idea that is not logically relevant, that does not mean such idea, or opinion is useless. Rather than despising or dismissing people’s comments, it would be wise at such point to welcome and appraise such idea. The relativity of an idea is that what is relevant to you may not be relevant to the other person.
But by and large, the fact still remains that everyone has a point. For instance, when it was obvious that hunger may abort Jesus’ intention of reaching out to the crowd with the gospel effectively, Jesus never despised the idea of making use of the little five loaves of bread and two pieces of fish that was available to the mammoth crowd (Marks 6:37-42). Similarly, had Naaman despised the simple advice brought by a very young girl when he felt too big to take his birth in river Jordan seven times as instructed by Prophet Elijah, he would have lived the rest of his life with the stigma of leprosy (2 Kings 5:10-14).
Do not just condemn people’s opinions, views or ideas. Do not just despise the opinion of others, do not just belittle the contributions of your wife, children, co-workers and so on. When you compare your knowledge with those of others, you will discover yours is dimesworth.
The contribution of others may not be relevant or useful today, but certainly it will someday. So keep it, acknowledge it, sieve it, examine it, and appraise it, it contains more than it first appeared.
