TOPIC - SOWING AND REAPING
Read: Judges 9:1-57
MEMORISE: Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap (Galatians 6:7).
EXPOSITION
Sowing and reaping is a law of the spirit. It is more than just an agricultural principle. It is an axiom of life that we reap what we sow. In our today’s dose of The Living Water, we are told of the way Abimelech got into power, and made himself great. He had no call from God to this honour, but his mother instilled into his mind some towering ambitious thoughts. In verses 23, God permitted the devil (great mischief-maker) to sow discord between Abimelech and the Shechemites. The Shechemites that approved Abimelech’s pretensions, aided and abetted him in his bloody project, and affirmed the fact by making him king after he had done it. However, it is so sad that they fell with him, and by him. They reaped destruction and death!
Similarly, in verse 48–57, Abimelech killed all his brethren at once, upon a stone publicly. He paid dearly with his life for that. A milestone was used to break his skull. What a shameful death! Vengeance was aimed at his guilty head which had worn the usurped crown. The devil that men do lives after them.
Just like the law of sowing and reaping, you will definitely real the fruit of the seed you sow–good or bad. How and what are you sowing? If you will not like to reap the fruits of the seed you are sowing, do not sow it at all. Or, better still, change now! And if the evil you have sown is still germinating, call unto God for mercy, to uproot it, now, and repent, lest you reap the attendant disaster.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Father, have mercy on me for all the evil I committed in the past; forgive and cleanse away my sins.
2. I refuse to corporate with Satan henceforth to engage in evil that can bring disaster upon my life now and in future.
3. Lord Jesus, have mercy on our nation and forgive the sins (atrocities) of the leaders and the led, and restore peace to our nation.
