TOPIC: BEWARE OF YOUR CARELESS MOMENTS
Read: 2 Samuel 11:1
MEMORISE: Then it happened one evening that David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king's house. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to behold (2 Samuel 11:2).
EXPOSITION
For sure, careless moments would come. Such moments are when we are relaxed, at rest, or at lowest ebbs. These are moments when sin can easily penetrate unnoticed. Don’t be ignorant of such moments.
Danger fell in 2 Samuel 11 due to the danger of respite. God had given him and was still giving him victory over his enemies. As much as he went to war, he defeated the enemies hand down. It was God in action for him. In the context of our texts, he was supposed to be at the warfront, sweating it out with his boys, but he chose to relax at home since he already had several loyal, committed and able lieutenants and boys (v.1). It was at this moment of carelessness that the devil struck with the temptations to commit adultery. David was unable to tame his eyes, hence he fell into the sin of adultery and consequently murder. The succeeding chapters show us the disaster that befell him and generations after him.
Don’t be ignorant of the fact that the devil is looking for when you will relax because you feel tired spiritually or otherwise. He knows that is the best time to strike, when the enemy is the weakest. You must know this too. For this reason, don’t be lost with your spiritual life, i.e. your relationship with God and loyalty to His Word and Way, anytime. You are not sure when he would strike.
Also, be focused on Jesus always (Heb. 12:1,2). Having your eyes on him would save you from carelessly looking in the direction of things the devil flaunts at you in such trying moments. God would allow such moments to prove our different levels of readiness to overcome the devil’s ignorable sneaking in to catch the Christian, and that would inform the kind and level of assignments and promotion we would get from Him.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, help me never to be careless with my life and relationship with You at any given point in time in my life.
2. Holy Spirit, endow me with the needed discernment to know when the devil is around to strike his deadly blow through temptation.
3. Pray for Christian brothers and sisters in courtship that God should help them to be careful lest the devil take advantages of their careless moments to ruin their destinies and Christian testimonies.
