TOPIC: BUILDING BRIDGES OR WALLS?
Read: Ephesians 2:11-18
MEMORISE: For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation (Ephesians 2:14).
EXPOSITION
One can imagine how risky it is, attempting to cross a river without a dependable bridge. The consequence can be better imagined than experienced. The importance of bridge cannot be over-emphasised. A good visit to the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, Nigeria, can attest to this. You imagine how residents of Obalende, Ikoyi, Lekki, Idumota, all in Lagos, Nigeria would have been able to access other parts of Lagos Metropolis without the bridge. If the physical bridge is so essential and indispensable, how much more spiritual bridge?
On the contrary, walls partition the building, apartments and cities obviously for protection and security. This may look good in the physical realm, but it is otherwise when it comes to the Church!
Although, it is undoubted that the Church needs Nehemiahs to build its ruined walls, yet, walls of partitions, which had once and for all been removed, need not be erected, directly or indirectly, for whatever reasons! The present system of the Church programmes, plans, purposes and proceedings always try to build walls against the outsiders in attempt to protect and secure the outsider! Instead of bridging the gaps erected between believers and unbelievers, we are busy building more walls. Are you not concerned with the perishing souls largely due to bridge builders?
If we raise the banners of our tenets, doctrines and ordinances over and above genuine love for the lost souls, we are building walls which directly or indirectly lock them out! A preacher once argued that, if hell is the final home for all sinners, why can’t the Church help be the present home so that they can turn saints and make heaven at last? While we don’t condone or encourage sins or sinful acts and all it represents, we must be bridge-builders to lead sinners to Christ. Be blessed as you become a builder of bridge today and always.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, make me a bridge-builder at home, in church, in my workplace, and in society.
2. Lord, let me not be hindrance to any sinner in any way from coming to Christ.
3. Lord, help churches and denominations to stop majoring on the unnecessary differences that scare the unchurched away from joining the Church.
