TOPIC: DYNAMICS OF SACRIFICE
Read: 2 Chronicles 7:4,5
MEMORISE: On that night God appeared to Solomon, and said to him, "Ask! What shall I give you?" (2 Chronicles 1:7).
EXPOSITION
Worshippers of Satan seem to understand the spiritual power of sacrifice, or what sacrifice attracts, more than many Christians. No worshippers of Satan goes to the altar of Satan to receive anything without making commensurable, required and Satan-pleasing sacrifice for it. One of the laws of success is sacrifice.
Christ sacrificed His life for us, and demands that we surrender our lives to Him before we can access the redemption His death has provided for us. To surrender our lives to Him means to receive Him and live His lifestyle of righteousness that is imputed to the Christian at spiritual birth. Obviously, acceptance of the kingdom of God and His righteousness cannot be well-done without necessary sacrifice. In fact, surrendering one’s life is like laying the life on the altar of God, just like Abraham laid Isaac on the divinely specified altar on Moriah-sacrifice.
Sacrifice is giving up something you value so much for the sake of other considerations. It is to give up something important or highly valued in exchange for something. In this case, it is giving up one’s all to attain to the standard of Christ for the upward call. It is also to allow or relinquish one’s right to somebody (Phil. 3:7ff). As a noun, it is something valuable or important, given up as a sacrifice.
A major character of sacrifice is that, it is painful to make, but gainful at last. Who or what do you value so much that God wants you to give up for the sake of His kingdom (cf. Gen. 22:1,2)? It can be your body (Rom. 12:1), talent, career, property, finance, or life (Luke 14:33). Would you be ready to give them up for Him?
Sacrifice provokes God’s intervention. Where genuine sacrifice is offered God is attracted (2 Chr. 1:6-7). More so, when the sacrifice comes from the heart and hands of a regenerated person who believes that there is no other sacrifice apart from what Christ perfected, God readily accords answers to such prayers.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, help me to surrender totally what You demand from me.
2. Today, I give up the lifestyle that I cherish but that God dislikes, in the name of Jesus.
3. Lord, visit those in positions of power/authority in politics and the church, and intimate them with what to do for the improvement of the condition of the masses.
