TOPIC: ESAU COULD NOT ENDURE!
Read: Genesis 25:27-34
MEMORISE: And Esau said, "Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?" (Genesis 25:32).
EXPOSITION
Many of us believe that games are merely meant for pleasure, catching fun or general relaxation. However, modernity has changed that notion. Every game, indoor or outdoor now is a source of livelihood and lucrative economy in all countries of the world. Metaphorically, we say somebody is playing game when he or she pretends to be what he/she is really not! Paul warned the Galatians: For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself (Gal. 6:3).
It may be feasible to play games on man’s intelligence, but no one can do that with God, Who will always reveal everyone’s true identity, because He is no respecter of persons. Many play games with their salvation. They profess and confess but never possess (Matt. 7:21-23). That would be a costly game at the day of reckoning (Zeph. 1:7)!
Esau, in our text today, teaches us not to play games with weighty and serious matters. He was unmindful; he thought it was just a joke to sell his birthright, but he missed it. Unfortunately, he later sought it with tears but couldn’t get it back (Heb. 12:16-18).
Dear devout, why are you playing costly game with your life? Marriage, career, job opportunities, ministerial enlargement, etc. have made many to play away their eternity, whereas nothing can replace it (Lk. 9:25). Desist from playing game with the important aspects of your life, for you can’t win at all. The devil is a master in manoeuvring. Don’t play into his hands.
As we celebrate the International Overdose Awareness Day this year, beware of getting involved in anything that can truncate your destiny. Remember: the fill of the porridge that Esau so crave for because of his temporary hunger, finish him. May that not be your lot. Amen. Stay blessed!

1. I refuse to fail myself and my generation, in Jesus’ name.
2. I refuse to foolishly play into the hands of the enemy of my soul (devil), in Jesus’ name.
3. Lord, help all the Christian youths to be mindful of their God-given destinies and not allow the devil to rob them of their glories.
