TOPIC -YOU ARE SPECIAL TO GOD
Read Deuteronomy 7:1-7
MEMORISE
For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth (Deuteronomy 7:6).
EXPOSITION
Many people are ignorant of the privileges and benefits God has for them,and are thus suffering in the midst of plenty. Some people even go as far as believing that, it is the height of spirituality and indeed a virtue to relegate themselves far below God's expectations for their lives. Nothing can be farther from the truth than that.
As evidenced in God's dealings with Israel, Israel had a privileged place in the heart of the Almighty God. He expected them to be Holy and had chosen and made them special in His sight, quite incomparable to any other people on earth.
God did not choose the Israelites because they merited it,but because He loved them. They were therefore to have nothing to do with the people He had disinherited and whose land He had given to Israel. Why? They were His own holy people,in fact, a people He had chosen as His royal priesthood. They were to make His holiness known to the ends of the earth. Why should the ones expanded to bear God's holiness to the crooked world imbibe the crooked culture of the people? That is why He consecrated them,and commanded them to be separated from wickedness.
What God provided for the Israelites in the Old Testament has now been extended to Christians, and for us to enjoy this privilege, we must live without sin and above reproach. We must be mindful always that He has chosen us from the multitude of people on earth; He has made us unique, and has conferred on us a privilege to have the Almighty as our Father. We are His special people that can therefore not afford to disappoint Him.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord help me not to disappoint You in any way.
2. Lord Jesus Christ, help us not to forfeit our positions in You.
3. Lord, purge our hearts of pride, arrogance and self- deceit. Help us to be humble so that we can get the best of, and from You.
